why no klr "s" or "a" or "r" model?

Post by SM » Mon Jul 26, 2010 8:48 pm

BMW and KTM both have different spec models of their big dual sports, the Adventure for the GS models, the "R" or "S" models for the 990/950 series, respectively, why doesn't Kawasaki come out with a slightly different model of the KLR geared towards people who would ride them off road? Every one who does off road their KLR spends at least a few bucks on skid plate, tires, handguards, handlebars, etc., etc... My list of different factory parts for this model: Lower 1st (and 2nd) gear Stouter skid plate Better suspension (stiffer forks and longer travel front and rear) More aggressive 50/50 tires Crash protection (lever guards, case guards, etc.) Add those basic add-ons, tack a few bucks on the price, and voila! The KLR-CS. Just a thought. Thanks CA Stu A13

It took KHI how many years to change the KLR. 21? It's probably been in the works for ten years now... but they move at a snails pace

I wholeheartedly concur with your suggestion. I'd be happy if they simply brought back the KLX 650 and just a bigger tank on it. As it stands now, I am going to be selling off some of my herd so I can go for broke and get the Elka rear shock for the KLR and a set of supermoto wheels for the KTM. Then I'll be happy for a little while, pay down some debt, and then start all over with some shiny new thing. da Vermonster

With the latest iteration of the KLR leaning more toward street than previous versions that might make some sense. Bear in mind though that there isn't some untapped power in the engine that can be unleashed with different mapping or tuning. I know that KHI has a dual sport and a supermoto version of the KLX250 and Suzuki has does the same with the DRZ. Those are both lighter bikes however with snappier handling than the KLR....does anyone really want to supermoto a KLR? -- Kevin Powers White Bear Lake, MN

And a KLR250-style headlight fairing mounted on the forks in place of all the bodywork.

Assault is telling someone your going to kick their ass. Battery is carrying out the threat.

I was going to buy the KLX 650 but got suckered on the bigger tank KLR. I think the KLX street version was better all around than the KLR 650 but the small tank killed it in my opinion. The big tank is a blessing (and sometimes a curse if you drop it with a full tank pointing downhill...and you are tired and hot). Criswell
