i gave a young woman a story to tell this afternoon...

Post by Jeff Khoury » Mon Jul 26, 2010 6:40 pm

I was on my way home from work on the 405.  Traffic was nearly dead stopped and I was lanesharing between the #1 and #2 lanes, which are very tight in this particular area.  I approached a newer model Volvo and I see a woman's arm sticking straight out the window of the car, holding a cigarette.  I couldn't go around because of how tight the lanes were.  I did the standard "Rev, Rev" to let her know I was there, but she was too deeply involved in her conversation to notice.  As the cars to my right shifted a bit, I was able to get around.  As a joke I extended my gloved hand and dragged my fingertips up her arm, starting at her elbow.  When I reached her hand, I quickly snatched her cigarette and sped up.  As I glanced in my mirror, I saw the most hilarious look on her face: eyes and mouth round and as big as saucers! ...It's the little things that make your day... -Jeff Khoury

#ygrps-yiv-1344433787 p {margin:0;}Honest, Officer!  She was trying to burn me with the cigarette and I disarmed her! Seriously though, unless she has the eyes of an eagle and the memory of an elephant, I don't think I'll be receiving a visit from LAPD. I envision the interaction going something like this: Buford T. Justice: What did he look like? Smokey McSmokerton: He was a dude on a black motorcycle. Buford T. Justice: What was he wearing? Smokey McSmokerton: A black jacket, black full-face helmet, black gloves and sunglasses. Buford T. Justice: What race was he? Smokey McSmokerton: Couldn't tell, I only saw him from behind, for like 2 seconds. Buford T. Justice:  Ma'am, you've just described a little over half the motorcyclists in Los Angeles.   What kind of motorcycle was it? Smokey McSmokerton: I don't know... it was black.  It didn't have any markings at all that I could see. Buford T. Justice: What were you doing when the alleged assault took place? Smokey McSmokerton: I was just minding my own business, hanging my arm out the window with a cigarette. Buford T. Justice: So you were discharging burning material from a moving vehicle? (a rather serious offense in California) Smokey McSmokerton: Uh... As a side note - I've gotten facefulls of ashes and had lit butts bounce off me several times.  As a smoker myself, I find this to be erm... rude. -Jeff Khoury

I am going to jail for sure then. Several weeks ago some woman tried to run me into oncoming traffic. When I pulled up next to her at the light she was still holding the cell phone to her left ear and the window was open. I took the phone and said "She will call you back when she isnt driving a motor vehicle" into it. Then I held the end button until it powered down and tossed it through the rear window into the back of the SUV. I told her the next time you run me into oncoming traffic because you are not paying attension I wont be polite and rode away. My wife was furious when I told her because she said it was Asault and Battery, she is an instructor at one of the police academies here in CT so she might know. I explained that she could not report me. My wifed said BS at which point I explained that to report me she must admit to both driving while holding a cell phone, illegal in CT, and the reckless driving that I would surely report her for if they came for me. So in the end I have committed a crime but it appears to be the perfect crime.

And you can also get totally out of the ticket by just being honest... I crossed a double yellow to pass slow traffic, and just as I get back, I see that a cop is coming down from the other direction. I pull over before he even has a chance to whip around to pull me over. To that classic question from above, I was totally honest. I agreed with him that he had every right to pull me over. He told me that he was letting me off due to my not trying to argue the obvious like *everybody* else does. I thanked him and got back on my way. Yes, tone and attitude are noted. Sometimes they can change the outcome of the event. -- Doug Herr A16 in Oakland, California

Right. Only people coming from NJ need a passport to enter the rest of the USA
