doohickey and valves; max service intervals

Jeffrey, MY suggestion would be to install the torsion spring the next time you go in "there" - half the work's already done. I changed my "Doo" out at 4,700 kms; went to the shortest spring at 25,400; and then installed the torsion spring at 45,700. MY experience on valves is that they become pretty 'stable' in terms of changing clearance after some mileage. I changed 2 shims at 790 kms; another 2 at 14,500 kms; NONE at 30,600 kms; 1 shim at 49,800 kms; and I MIGHT check my valves again in 2011 (72,600 kms now). Keep having fun on your KLR! Cheers, Ed
