two inner tubes per tire?

Post by bufbooth » Wed Jul 21, 2010 11:59 am

Hello, Has anyone experimented with installing two inner tubes in each tire as a way to avoid being stranded with a flat tire (or to avoid having to make a field repair)? I realize I would need an extra valve stem hole in the rim, and if one tube went flat I would be at half pressure, but I could either quickly inflat the working tube, or limp to a gas station for air. I ended up with a front flat tire yesterday on the way home from work and it was not a fun experience, while waiting for a ride I ended up getting caught in a rain storm. I usually ride alone on trips and it would be nice to have a fast and easy way to recover from a flat tire, plus the extra safty of not losing all tire air pressure while at highways speeds. Just a thought, thanks... Dennis...
