led 1157 tail bulb question

Post by mark_anthony123 » Mon Apr 26, 2010 7:06 pm

hey folks, i'm looking at tail bulbs on the autoluminaton web site. do I want the red or a white bulb? since the lens plastic is red does it matter? also, has any one wired led running lights into the blinker housings? easy to do? what kind of bulb would you use? I run my klr to my second home, 140 miles one way, all highway. with a 16t front sprocket I run my klr at 75 all the way. avon tires, tall windshield., progressive springs - it's a nice ride. the problem is I do this at night and I believe that the stock lighting on the klr is woefully deficient. I blew a headlight fuse one night. not good. I had to pull into a drainage ditch on the side of a dark highway and use a flash light to replace the fuse. my guess is that I blew the fuse while switching from high to low. i've gotta do something quick now that the riding season is underway. thanks, mark.

#ygrps-yiv-836086138 p {margin:0;}I would choose red.  More light will be transmitted through the lens.  In a red led, all light emitted is red.  If it's white, the lens filters out all the other wavelengths and only passes the red, and is therefore less efficient. The "Eagle Eye 5" is the one you want.  The most lumens focused toward the rear, just where you need 'em. -Jeff Khoury
