I keep losing my kickstand pads, so I am considering welding a metal plate to the foot of my kickstand to make the foot bigger. Any recommendations as to size and shape. Has any one had a problem with a bigger foot getting in the way of something? Craig Kahler

I put a bigger foot on mine about 2 1/2" wide by 3"long in an oval shape,also drilled some holes around the edge so you don't get suction on soft ground,works great. Also thinking of putting a little tab on the stand so i can kick it up more easily as I'm vertically challenged and holding the bike up with my right leg and trying to get the kick stand up with the other,well nuff said. As someone on this list suggested some time back, I got a flatwasher with a 2 1/2" outside diameter at a truck parts place and welded it on.  Then I ground some of it away to clear the swingarm on my A19.   YMMV. What works for me is a 4x4 (rounded corner) electrical plate cover that I keep in ATV handlebar bag (looks like a fanny pack) I had a string tied to a corner at one time but grew tired of wrapping it back around the cover. Figured something larger on the kickstand would be another thing to catch on boot/sticks/whatever. Dooden A15 Green Ape

A guy who goes by Twin Headlight Ernie makes a super blingy alloy kickstand foot. I have the second one ever on my KLR. It is excessive, over the top, way too complicated and more money than anybody should ever have to spend. But it is cool. http://www.klr650.net/forums/showthread.php?p=317224 You can also read there about the Sink-no-Bob, a patented, but easy-to-make foot that requires no welding. The guy with the patent says feel free to make one for yourself, as long as you don't start selling them. All it takes is a rubber mud flap, a hose clamp, some tin snips, and about fifteen minutes. I made one for my KTM, and like it even better than Ernie's Fat Foot, which is worth doing once, but not more.

The stock kick stand is inadequate, especially when you are almost (or altogether) to old and/or too weak to lift the bike if/when it falls over due to soft ground or pavement.  And it will happen with the stock stand if you ride much. To remedy the problem, I cut a piece of 1/8 inch aluminum to about 2 inches (width of the stock foot) by about 3.5 inches (leaving about 1.5 in sticking out the back) and rounded the corners.  Using a 5/16th bolt I bolted one end to the front of the stand.  The hangover went to the back so that when the stand is up it does not drag the road on corners.  I used aluminum because of weight.  A steel plate that big would tend to make the stand drop when you did not want it to. Use Lock Tight on the 5/16th bold. Once you get it like you want it, drill a 1/8th inch hole in the rear and put a pin in it (welding rod will do well) and bend it over top and bottom.  This will keep the boot from spinning if the bolt gets loose.  You might want to grind the bolt head off some once everything is like you want it.  I have put about 16k on the bike ( good bit off road) since I built the foot and it has never failed me or given a problem.
