no where to ride

Post by Craig Kahler » Mon Apr 05, 2010 1:28 pm

I live in the Fredericksburg, VA area. I have a 07 KLR650, but have not found many places to ride off road. Most public land forbids dirt bike riding and most private property is posted.
Its getting a little old riding the same couple short trails I found so far.  I want to stay legal.
I want to ride for hours on trails through the woods, cross streams, stopping to camp and fish. I don,t want to worry about trespassing or being arrested by rangers.
Am I dreaming? Any suggestions on finding off road places to ride? Craig Kahler

Move.. :-) Know the feeling.. when I got my 01 I was still in the Chicago area and had to ride north into Wisconson just to find a damn gravel road. Have since moved away, moved back and back away.... Lots of places to ride in Upper Michigan, just wish I would land some employment to fuel my habit. Dooden A15 Green Ape

That's why it's better to live west of the Mississippi.

Go to the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming.  There you can camp for a week and ride a hundred miles in a different direction every day.  Plus the scenery is absolutely gorgeous. Course, I guess that is a bit of a drive from VA.   Closer to you there is the TransContinental Trail.  I think is begins in Eastern Tennessee and ends in Oregon.  Do a google search for Eagle scout and TransContinental Trail and you'll find a very good story about the entire trail.   Good luck.     To: dsn_klr650@yahoogroups.com From: ckahleer@... no where to ride

Utah! I had left off road travel and then was transferred to Utah. Now I have a dualsport (KLR) 3 trail bikes and 2 ATV's. Trails are 10 minutes from my door. Hundreds of miles of trails within an hour. Many trails marked for people, horses and machines. Low unemployment. Clean air, pretty girls, big trout. I should work for the Chamber of Commerce. Craig

The George Washington and Jefferson National Forests are huge, and it's pretty country. Although I haven't been back that way in years, I looked up their web site and they have some ATV roads/trails. Just google George Washington National Forest and click on the maps/brochures button. Not exactly a day trip, though. Bryan, now in AZ but once from Charlottesville.
