clutch plates ?

Post by Bogdan Swider » Fri Mar 12, 2010 11:45 am

Re: [DSN_KLR650] Re: Clutch Plates ? Years ago, Elden Carl  would give advice in Gino Pakluda’s  klr newsletter – latter Dual Sport News. He believed you should change the balancer chain around 30k miles. I changed mine about that time as I was in there inspecting the doo anyway. That was when I took regular trips into Mexico so I took preventative measures. Now the consensus is that it’s not necessary unless the chain measures out of spec. I also believe a new cam chain was put in when Vey de la Cruz installed the lower first gear from a 600 into my tranny. You’d think I’d remember for sure; my records are at home and I’m at work. I enjoyed viewing your new sculptures, Ron. Bogdan

Hey Bogdan, at 71,000 miles, are you still running the same balancer chain/ cam chain that came on it? I understand some with high milage replace theirs. You’re right – if I wasn’t so cheap I’d be ridding a Harley CVO Ultra Classic instead of my beat-up anemic klr. Glad someone is aware of Krupnik, a fine honey liquor. FWIW there’s a barley soup by the same name. Last night, however, I drank some Old Grand Dad – cause they named it after me. Put down the krupnik and just replace the friction plates and springs already. Sheesh, 71,000 miles. nklr 70s era motocross race

Post by Horton Oliphant » Fri Mar 12, 2010 3:24 pm

Was anyone else at the motocross race someplace around Omaha Nebraska around 75 to 78? I attended a race and watched Decoster, Hannah, Tripes, Wolsink and many others. I have a few slides someplace that I can't lay my hands on at the moment. I can't remember who won but it wasn't Tripes because I remember seeing him after the race and he wasn't happy. It was very dusty for the race. I think about this every once in a while and wonder if anyone from the group was there and or has more information. Wasn't there, but late 60's, early 70's I'd trip down to Puyallap Washington and watch the world GP motocross. Decoster, Torsten Hallman and Heikki Mikkola were the hot riders of the day. Good memories.   West

I wasn't at that one but was at 2 races both Decoster and Jole Robert were in here in Dallas. The first one was when one or both were riding CZ's (I think) or Decoster could have been on a Husky. It was more of an exhibition race because locals didn't have a clue about motocross. One guy was trying to go over a jump on a hard tail flat track bike. What a laugh. Adolf Weil was also there on a Maico and a Checkoslovokian or Hungarian named rider Vastamil Valek  (I think). A friend could speak German so we got to shake hands with them and talk a little. Decoster spoke English. They rode rings around our guys just playing around. The second time I saw them race here in the early / mid seventies Decoster was riding for Suzuki. Gary Bailey was there doing outlandish jumps (for the time). I still have negatives of some of them I think. Criswell
