Wanted to see what the "city" riders where on. Well, surprise of my life (and my wife's) were the beautiful girls riding scooters in SF! I mean high heals and all. Took a couple elbows but I'm telln' ya. It was worth the trip. So, now she's whispering "Vespa" in my ear all the time. What have I done? PS - next time I'm taken' a camera. You won't believe it. Would give the umbrella girls at USGP races a run for the money. > > > > I've been to San Francisco a few times. Are you sure they were girls?>

tw200 valves nklr
I purchased a 1990 tw200 over the weekend that had a valve tapping noise. Opon investigation, I found the intake valve tappet gap was way to large. I adjusted to within spec, and after a half hour of riding the noise was back, the bike would stall at idle, and the gap was again to large. I'm about out of adjustment on the adjuster screw. Any ideas on whats causing this?

Sticky valve, broken valve spring, something stuck in the valve seat? The valve is probably not closing all the way, loosing compression and stalling at slow speeds.
Just a guess, good luck.

Old KZ400 I had always had valve clatter, adjust ride and clatter some more. Seemed I was always adjusting them valves.
But if they have lock nuts on the adjuster, make sure a lock nut did'nt come loose.
It had a Kerker (SP?) pipe from the PO, so really did'nt hear it much except idle and never when I would take the baffles out.
Otherwise burnt valve face, valve seat, weak/broken spring, camshaft might be bad.
Or maybe perhaps you were not at TDC (or spec'd cam position) when adjustment was made.

Sounds like something in the valve train was not hardened properly, or has worn through the hardening. Maybe the top end was starved of oil at some point in the bike's history. Look at the cam lobe and follower end of the rocker. If my experience with a clapped-out DR650 is any indicator, a new cam and rockers will run about $300.> > I purchased a 1990 tw200 over the weekend that had a valve tapping noise.
