Hello Eddie, It is not just the looks. It makes noises it should not make and it flexes too much from side to side. Most of my riding is on the highway but I have done a few thousand on dusty gravel and dirt roads. The thing that may have hurt it most is I got it too tight a time or two--even ruined the front sprocket seal. Also, I have used the high pressure washer to get the mud and dirt off, which some say is a no-no. I have used WD and other light stuff. I'm thinking of replacing chain/sprockers withint a few hundred more miles. rw Posted by: "eddiebmauri" eddiebmauri@... eddiebmauri Sat Aug 1, 2009 2:31 am (PDT) You don't like the looks of your chain after 14K??? sprocket and chain

For those who have followed the "use ONLY WD40 on your chain" threads: I replaced my ORIGINAL chain at Whitehorse on my Alaska trip (used WD40 on it ONLY) at 54,141.2 kms (33,567 miles!), VERY similar to the results that Bill Watson got on HIS original chain. And, since I got home last Sunday, at 64,170 HARD kms I made my FIRST adjustment to it (a DID O-ring chain). Cheers, Ed PS Your results may vary - I'm ANAL about spraying and wiping down my chain.

mounting hard luggage on h trails mount

This is for the benefit of those thinking about mounting Pelican cases on their beast. I bought a couple of Pelican 1450 cases for my 08, I already had the Happy Trails rack on board. The other thing that was bought for the job was a Happy Trail mounting kit, model MK750-A. Because the rack was already mounted, I made a template by cutting a piece of cardboard to 9 x 12 1/8 inches. This was taped to the inside of the rack. Then I put the pucks in place and stuck an awl through the bolt holes to mark the holes for drilling the cases.( I used the same template turned over to do the other side). I started to remove the ribbing on the underside of the cases with a wood chisel, but then I considered that I don't want to be here until next week, so I switched to a 4 inch grinder. Worked well, but it removes material very fast, if you go this route, take it easy. After that, I drilled the holes, put the pucks in place, and put the cases on the rack. I realize that for the old hands this is probably pretty obvious stuff, but for a guy trying it on for size for the first time, it might help. Anyway, I have two Pelicans, both mounted, first time I ever mounted a Pelican, don't tell the SPCA. DC

Hello Trail Sun,

I have not yet changed an o-ring chain. Most of my riding and changing of chains was done when a chain only lasted a few thousand miles. They may be why I'm getting so anxious to change mine already, as 14k. Some have already given some good answers as they expressed their opinion as to when to change everything. You can find them on the archives on the web site. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/DSN_KLR650/%c2%a0 Robert Waters [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
