There used to be a bar on a seedy street here in Columbus called the L&H Saloon. Ft. Benning savvy folks will know all about "Victory Drive". Anyhow, I rode my white with red/blur stripes 1989 Honda Transalp right up to the door one afternoon and waded into crowd, right up to the bar. I was a stranger in a strange land & wearing the wrong "uniform". I had on a red & blue HRC off road jacket & carrying a multicolored, full-face helmet. You know those scenes in a movie where a guy goes in like this and the music stops? It was almost that bad. The waitress was the parts lady at the local HD dealership and recognized me, sort of. "Can I help you?" I told her I had double prints of the the previous weekend's Christmas Toy Run (sponsored by the local Iron Cross chapter). "Hey, everybody! This guy's got free pictures of the Toy Run!" It took 3 seconds to be surrounded by happier folks clamoring to find a photo of themselves. Talk about a mood changer! I was not a member of the group. Yet, I'm pretty sure a few things got put away or back on safety. I went home pictureless but otherwise intact. =) eddie

I had a similar experience walking into a serious Latino Bar / Restaurant here in Texas looking for good ole TX Mex food. What I walked into was place filled with mean looking hombres probably just across from Mexico or Central America and not the standard good ole boy local TX Mexicans. Everyone was staring at me especially the hombres in big white cowboy hats. The waitress nervously asked in broken English if she could help me and my wife? I would like 2 orders of tacos I said. She looked around at the hombres who I guess signaled it was OK so we got to eat hurriedly but it was a very quite restaurant.. I have also been the only white guy in a all black night club besides my son who was the keyboard player for a band composed of mostly black guys, one Cuban and 2 whitey's so the band did a lot of gigs in all black clubs. Interesting to say the least as I usually felt all eyes were on me.... but everybody was cool. Humans are a funny breed. Criswell
