Regarding the link Jeff mentioned.
The quiet bike org guys are in the Off Road Forestry Volunteers up here in the San Bernardino Mountains (Silverwood Lake, Crestline, Lake Arrowhead, Big Bear).
I am also a volunteer and have done patrols with them. They have places to check your noise levels set up on weekends on the trails. The OHV-Forestry Volunteers is quite a program up here, you can get rated in MC, Quad, and Jeep types. I borrowed a buddies jeep and got all three ratings for the education. All the classes take almost a year. We are trying to keep the areas open, but I don't think the younger riders care about anything but their fun. Quads and Rhinos are a pain, they come right down the middle of the trails at you. Everyone thinks they are racing. I don't ride weekends much, too dangerous.
They are real serious, especially on spark arrestors.
I have had 3 different exhausts on my DR400. The latest is the White Bros. 'E' unit. Pricey, but meets the DB for newer bikes! It still seems loud to me, but beat the spec by 1 DB. Lots of money to meet the new laws put in a few years ago.
It is a funky BROWN anodized color and oval shaped.
I live right near the trails, and believe we will loose the whole area some day because of noise and guys riding off the trails.
Sad. The local property owners (not me), the do-gooders and the environmentalists can't wait!
I have 3 street legal bikes.
KLR650 2004
DRZ400 2002
WR400 1999
Now Ca. is proposing all 2002 and up be SMOG CHECKED every 2 years.
I hardly ride these, now they got to go get rejetted to meet smog every 2 years?
I guess I will keep the kick starting SOB WR400 and dump the others?
Hating this state! But it is coming to your state too!

speaking of exhaust pipes.... nklr
Funny, stopped to have a muffler put on my 92 Camaro sat am....
Just happen to be out of stock on OEM type mufflers, but they have this nice performance muffler by Flowmaster they tell me a Series 40, but pretty sure only series 80 would work for my crossover dual exhaust.
Might add very well constructed muffler also.
Anyway 4+ bills later, of course Cat was showing signs of impending failure, custom made tail pipes ect
So now with a deeper tone, more free flowing exhaust we take off down the highway topping off the car a couple different times and with this freeflowing muffler that is kinda raspy deep toned I noted a change in amount of fuel the car is burning, seems the claim better performance and better milage is true.
So now running 70+ Mph (mostly) over 550 miles we drove it over the weekend this 5.0 V-8 is giving me 27.5 Mpg
Now this has nothing to do with KLR's but thought I would share.
