Rey, I suggest you use a heavy duty tube. It's like putting a tire inside a tire. That worked very well for me last year and I'm not gonna change a set up that works well. Make sure you balance the tire when you're done as the tube is heavy and my limited experience is the wheel will need balancing. I agree, the HD tubes are pretty thick, and it it worked pretty good with the front tire, I used a UHD in the rear. I choose to replace tubes cause I really did'nt know anything about the OEM tubes, and I got spares out of it that are pretty thin, but good enough for spares. Dooden A15 Green Ape

Howdy, Try www.rockymountainatv.com and get a 3.00X21 or 3.25X21 front. I like the 3.00 as I think it makes the front quicker. Used it for 11,000 miles with about 9,000 of those full touring load. About 4,000 dirt. For the rear I like the 5.10x17. The rear last about 5-6K miles. I also like the heavy duty tubes in both tires. I haven't had any problems with heat build up and that includes 90 degree days for 800+ smiles. Ron and Jeff, FWIW - with a fairly fresh set of K270s on my KLR I did a quick right-left transition with a Honda sportsbike on my tail (Fireblade???) and he told me later that he couldn't transition as well or fast as I had. My .02$. I swear by them tho' I don't enjoy the howl they make once the center flattens out. I wear ear plugs. Ed

That's funny. My brother who rides an R1 said upon first riding my '09 KLR: "That bike's REALLY nimble." heh.

Sorry about another "been there - done that" don't you just hate it when people respond to you with that type of answer! So anyhoo, yup- 1984 650 nighthawk - slow down normally to a right turn - road is next to a gravel pit. My rear tire at the time was not bald, but the tread was pretty minimal. I thought I could get another 1000mi or more out of it. the slow right turn got interesting when the bike's rear end started passing me on my left. then of course the tires grabbed and flopped us onto the pavement. I hit with my patented texas roll and got up unscathed, however the nighthawk now had badly bent bars and a smashed windshield. Since then I do pay more attention to the tread on my tires. I too have two sets of rims for the KLR650, one with stock from Dunlop front and the Kenda k270 rear for the pavement, the other set with 760 trackmasterII DOT knobbies (badass in the woods) thanks for listening - keep the rubber side down. todd in Chaska mn A16
