<><><><><><><><><> <><><><><><><><><> Chris, Might not be water in the fuel but just poor fuel. If you can run until almost empty and then refill from a different source that might be all you need to eliminate the issue. If I recall correctly you did coolant pump seals just before leaving on this ride. How's that working out for you? I have only read a few of these, so maybe this was already asked. Do you have a fuel filter? Is it clean? Is it an automotive type? I have found that automotive fuel filters don't allow a good flow of fuel from a gravity feed system. Rick A17

mexico - gas problem?

Post by Norloff Chris » Wed Mar 25, 2009 11:35 pm

I've run 2 or 3 tanks of gas through the bike since the problem started. Today the bike was fine during full-throttle mountain climbing at 8,000 ft. I was on the fast roads only in the morning when it was cool. Yes, the water pump coolant seals are all fine. All the problems getting the bike ready seem so long ago ... Many thanks to the folks on this list, who have made all the difference in the world. Chris

Thanks Rick. No, no fuel filter. I checked the filter screens on the fuel petcock and they're good. Thx Chris

Hi Chris, Glad things are working for you now! Nothing was mentioned about OAT or ethanol, but my bike will not use ethanol above 95F without surging, which restricted the speed to 60mph using std sprockets of 15/43. Another thing to consider in the future: and that is petcock selector position. I have been thinking about this anomaly since you first posted, and then went out to look at the petcock on my bike as well when I went for a 40F/40mile ride yesterday. (Thermo - bob installed, temps went quickly to 190ish+ and stayed there the entire hour.) When the petcock is turned to on/run it should be actually pointed a little aft. If it is pointed vertically, that will not give the petcock a wide-open posture. WOT position might just need that petcock to be in the full open position. revmaaatin.
