aux lighting question
Big Cee has some aux. lights ,$90 the pair, either 20 or 35 watts each, your
choice. That should be a total of either 3.3 or 6 watts by my reckoning.

After looking into this a bit, it's me conclusion that you'll need
to substitute money for the lack of electrical power output.
There are HID conversion kits that will allow you to run 35W
headlights that produce more light than regular icandescant lamps.
You'd need a pair of headlamp shells fitted to the front of your KLR,
one for low and one for high. The combined pair would be very bright
and still only draw 70W.
There are also 20W and 35W bicycle headlights that use Halogen or
Xenon lamps that could be adapated to the bike.
Also, there are some exotic LED technologies that are coming into
production. One seris produces nearly a full 1.0W of light from
2 cell flashlights, but the bulb is $50.
Keep an eye on the LED stuff, just like the D-S tail/stop lamp, these
will continue to evolve and radically change the lighting industry.
A few hours googling and you should some sources for these.

That should have read 3.3 or about 6 amps not watts. Sorry but I was suffering
from a brain fart.

Make sure you vent that space and call a gas free engineer to certify
it free from explosive gases before returning.

aux lighting question
Someone on the list probably knows if the power output is the same for the
KLXC and the KLR. I mounted two KC driving lamps to the KLX a couple of years
ago. I bought the kit, came with the switch, relay, wiring harness, and lamps.
Found enough space under the seat for the relay, routed the harness along
the inside of the frame under the tank. Mounted the lamps to a piece of al
strap secured just under the headlamp. This kit came with enough instructions
that even as electically challenged as I am, I managed to wire it correctly, the
driving lamps cut off anytime the high beam is engaged, which I believe is
required in most states. Got the kit from my local Chevy dealer, originally for
the front of my chevy truck. Works fine so far, for what it is worth.

I would like to add an auxiliary road light system (like rally
lights) to the 2000 KLR. Since there isn't much in the power budget,
I was wondering if anyone had tried an effective setup.
My initial idea is to try to find some two lights mounted to each
side of the fairing that had the same current draw as the main
headlamp, and switch between the two as needed.
Any ideas?

aux lighting question
I have been searching for some time now for affordable, quality
auxillary lighting for deer sighting on my KLR. I usually try to be
home by dusk, but that isn't always possible.
I saw in a flyer this morning that Kragen's Auto Parts has some HID
lights on sale at a price that seems reasonable.
Here is the info.
4" HID lights with Internal Starter and Ballast
3.15 - 3.30 amp current draw
2500 hour bulb life
6000K color temperature
3200 lumens
35 watt eurobeam pattern
2 wire hook up
I looked these lamps over in person and they appear to be of decent
quality. They are a little ober 4" in diameter, but are a bit bulky
with the case being about 4" long. They mount with a single 3/8"
diameter bolt and have provisions for locking down on the desired
aiming point. Each lamp has an included polycarbonate clear shield,
and the case is constructed totally of some type of plastic. The
price is $99 each. Before I fork over any hard-earned money I would
like to get some opinions from you guys. I an tentatively planning
on attaching them to the Happy-Trails P/D Nerf Bars which I have yet
to order from Fred. Any thoughts and comments are welcome.

I bought some pads at the stealership about a month and a half ago and
they cost $30 for metallics. I bought some semi-metallic pads at
Cycle Gear and they ran about $30. I haven't noticed a price
increase. Maybe the parts droid sold you the wrong pads.
