klr650 : was new helmet, now is dot, snell

Post by Luc Legrain » Sat Jan 03, 2009 5:14 am

I know that the Airoh helmet is not DOT, but it has the European standards homologation which seems to be more stringent than DOT. I read somewhere about a controversy between DOT and SNELL homologation ,which one is better ?

I bought one though sold it before using it. They are not DOT approved and I did not want to...well I did not want to. Since the chance of being pulled over for a helmet check is almost nil, I would wear one now if I had one. Nice helmet. Did you get additional visors? I wonder if an insurance company could invalidate your coverage if your helmet was non DOT. George Rancho Bernardo, CA Luc Legrain wrote:

Luc, Try and "Google" up a 'Motorcyclist' article on helmet testing from 2005(???). It explains REALLY well the different standards. #1 rated was the Z1R at about $99, DOT rated only. Cheers, Ed
