Hi, Everyone. I've just bought a KLR650 (2007). Any vital advice about the bike as I begin to use it? (I'm an experienced Harley rider, so this will be a pretty different experience!) Thanks.

Welcome aboard! Where are you located? Get ready for the experience of a lifetime. Well, if your going to adventure ride, take the time to learn what's available to customize your KLR and gear for traveling back country. Ask a lot of questions and really get to know your KLR. It's a whole new world--I'd argue the best--so be careful and take it slow your first 2k smiles. Brian

Just get the 'do (the balancer tension adjustment lever) done. Other than that, the bike will let you know what needs doing to it, based on your own needs. Make sure it has oil at every fillup (KLR's tend to burn oil at high RPM's), put gas in it, and ride it.

I also would ( learned the hard way ) put a dab of Blue Locktite on every single screws on the bike .

Sachssci, let me add my welcome to the group, I'm still a newbie also, only had my 08 for 5 months and love it. I would agree with the suggestion for the blue locktite on the bolts and screws except for the ones that screw into a rubber cushioned attachment. Loctite seems to make the rubber spin when you try and remove the fastener... Once you have bonded with your bike you might want to consider greasing the swing arm and shock/ link bearings, this can be a problem if the bike has been ridden in water or if the factory did a poor job of prepping the bike.
