politics or motorcycling?

Post by Lawrence Borgens » Mon Oct 20, 2008 10:25 am

List, Hey I know that I am new to the list but I have seen a lot of messages that were more political then motorcycle related. If this group is more about politics and less about motorcycling then that is fine but just be up front about it and let me know so that I can make a decision about if this is the best place for me to spend my time. Maybe there is a moderator that is willing to set me straight or take action against the off-topic messages and senders? Thanks in advance. I understood your meaning...I just worded my response poorly and do not take exception to your remark. Canada and the US rely on each other more than either government care to admit....and we are both the better for it. I don't know a single Canadian that takes exception to the fact that Americans get 54% of their oil from us. Royalties are only $2/barrel but thousands of high paying jobs are created...plus it reduces the flow of capital to Middle Eastern countries. What we do take exception to, are recent statements by John McCain claiming that the US should drill, drill, drill, because Canada may make a sweetheart with China and cut off supplies of oil to the US. That is more fear mongering that serves no constructive purpose other than his election ambitions. NAFTA: NAFTA prohibits the Canadian government from imposing (under normal conditions) any restriction that causes U.S. imports of Canadian energy to fall. Have a swell day,eh? politics or motorcycling?

Lawrence, Stick around a while and you will find that in about a month the political banter will subside. Every four years during the US election process(?) we have much more talk about politics at this time. We have set up three basic rules that govern this list and one is to allow messages that don't have anything to do with the KLR. Those messages should be marked in the subject line with NKLR for no KLR content. You should have the option of filtering out the non KLR content messages in your email program. Or if you get your messages online, then just ignore anything with NKLR in the subject line. Fred List Admin.

This always happens around election time, it will soon go away. The text below is from the DSN_KLR650 Yahoo website: Please adhere to the three following guidelines for the list: 1. NO personal attacks. Keep opinions as objective discussions. 2. Please use NKLR in the subject line for any off topic discussions so people may filter their email if so desired. 3. Please use Vendor in the subject line for any Vendor posts on Fridays so people may filter their email if so desired. If you are new to the KLR, I suggest you begin by checking out the FAQ prepared by lister, Dr. Chris Krok. One can easily filter all NKLR "Not KLR" emails with the filters in your email client. If your reading on the web or by digest, just don't read the emails marked NKLR. Alan Henderson A13 Iowa Lawrence Borgens wrote:

Carp... hate it when I forget to edit reply targets. Sorry if you got duplicates, Alan. Can we get a clarification on NKLR? I think it should mean "Not Motorcycle"... there have been a few NKLRs that actually had good content... like the hitch trailer conversation. While not specifically "KLR", it definitely would be of interest to most KLRistas. On Mon, Oct 20, 2008 at 12:20 PM, Horton Oliphant wrote:

Just what we need is more rules. If we keep this up folks will think we are riding BMW's.

You may breath easier, but I'll bet that you don't breathe as deeply as you did then. Also have that T shirt, earned while pulling off the "Lone Ranger into the saddle trick". DC boulder_adv_rider wrote:
