There is a annoying rattle coming from the tack/speedo "console" that
happens when on fairly rough dirt roads. The two bolts that anchor the
console to the triple crown are tight. It appears to be coming from the
mount inside the console.
Question? Does removing the two 12mm bolts, that hold the fairing from
the frame, allow enough space to get at the console? Any advice
appreciarted.
As a new KLR owner, thanks for all the info!

I bet it is the light adjustment spring. Mine used to rattle at about 3K RPMs and that drove me bonkers. To make sure, tighten it up all the way (that will mess up your light some, but you just want to make sure). It is a #2 philips screw to the left as you look at the front of the headlamp. Or you can just shimmy up the light with a piece of cardboard or foam to take the pressure off the spring. If that removes the rattle, take the fairing off and put 4 small plastic washes between the the spring and the mounting assembly like such: washer = bracket = washer = spring = washer = bracket = washer I am sure there are other solutions like shrink wrap the spring or something of that sort, but the solution above took care of my problem> There is a annoying rattle coming from the tack/speedo "console" that > happens when on fairly rough dirt roads. The rattle may be a light bulb loose or a cable banging on the
plastic. other people have found that strange tickings or rattles are
caused by the extra lenght of the chin strap from their helmet is
hitting the helmet and making noise. Removing the 12mm bolts allows
you to remove the fairing and then you can remove the instrument
cluster to work on it.

My A12 suffered from an anoying sound in that general direction,
turned out to be that black plastic cover/panel at the back of the
headlight rubbing against the fairing.Next time you hear it try some
pressure on the panel and see if the noise stops......cosmo

Hi all........What is this........I also need a stock windshield......Must
be an epidemic.
My Son took over my 05 KLR and was doing a great job of servicing and
washing it when he snagged the hose and just about dropped it. He caught it
just in time by one grip and the top of of the windshield and as a result
cracked the windshield. So if any body else has stock windshield they don
t want ( CHEAP IS GOOD ). I also need one.
I thought he was going to break out in tears. 16, his first street bike and
warm weather coming. He now has my precious Chick Magnet Red 05 and I have
a new Chick Magnet red 08.
If you can help out please email me.

The KLR was due for a bath, and checking around I
found the license plates bolts were loose, I put
another nut on them. The muffler had a piece of pipe
loose inside, so I got out my abortion kit, and after
a lot of wiggling I got it out, it looks like
something called a spark arrester? How did it get
loose? It is a piece of four inch perforated pipe.
Now what? The sound is different. I am not going to
spend big bucks. As long as it rides, that s all I
want. We will let someone else arrest the sparks. Jacostarica.
