It's a lot of work to start a club, put up a website, organize events, collect dues, deal with politics, produce club 'stuff', etc. I applaud anyone with the energy and wherewithal to tackle the job, but I'd rather spend my limited moto time on my motorcycles. And while I don't mind socializing and kicking tires and would like to put faces to the many names I've come to know here, I really prefer to ride with the small group of friends I've ridden with for over 30 years. Or by myself if they're busy. I figure this list is a virtual club; since we're distributed across the globe, it's just a little tough to hold meetings. See you on the road! __Arden --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "mikeypep" wrote: > > Ok, the Connie has COG, a nationally organized "Concours Owners Group", > BMW has BMWMOA and the Airheads. where's the klr club? history
Arden and others,
For you history buffs, this mailing list was created because of a group of KLR riders meeting in Moab for a ride once a year. Gino Pokluda was one of this group and started a newsletter called the KLR650 News in about 1995. In 1998 Bill Haycock created the first web site for this group and Kurt Simpson created a mailing list. The archives of the original list serve can be found here: http://www.xmission.com/pub/lists/klr650/archive/ This mailing list was later changed to OneList and then to Yahoo.
In 1998 the KLR650 News was changed to the Dual Sport News. That is where the DSN_KLR650 in our subject line comes from. The DSN was then changed last year to Adventure Motorcycle. The gathering in Moab was originally called the Utah Get-Together. After growing from a small group 8-10 riders, this gathering topped out around 150+ and drew the attention of the BLM. There were no laws broken but we decided to change the focus and changed the name of this event to the Canyonlands Motor Classic. This smaller more friendly gathering of KLRs and other dual sport enthusiasts has continued for about 15 years now. The next CMC will be in Moab at my shop May 29 - June 1. There is a link to this gathering on my web site.
Hope to see some of you here.
