spare front wheel

Post by ocpianoman » Wed Apr 16, 2008 4:05 pm

As most KLR riders know, it would be extremely handy to have a spare front wheel with a knobby mounted for dirt riding. So, I watch eBay, but bidding frenzy always makes the used KLR front wheels on eBay way too expensive. $200 for a '97 front wheel with a rusty rotor is just not a bargain in my opinion, which is what the last one went for. So - what other wheels fit the KLR650? KLR250? KLX? Maybe if an alternate comes up on eBay a bargain can be had. Tough to find bargains these days unless you're looking for a left-handed sky hook. Guys have said that running street tires on a KLR is a waste of a good dirt bike, but my KLR is an extremely useful commuter, too. I put some LEDs on it to make myself a little more visible in this crazy SoCal traffic and it slips through gridlock way easier than my 520lb. VX800. My next front tire is a Pirelli Scorpion A/T, already waiting in the garage. I'm going to have to throw away the Kenda even though it's nowhere near bald yet. It's just too squirrely now it's scalloped and worn down. ian

Doug speaketh not with forked tongue. I have a Moab shock too and it's the single biggest improvement I have made on my KLR. Well worth the money. Michael -- "Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open manhole and die." -- Mel Brooks San Francisco, CA
