tail of the dragon
Well after waited several times to get someone to make the trip with, I decided to go alone this past weekend.
Loaded all the tools and stuff I may have needed.
Programmed the new GARMIN 2610 and headed north on my 450 Mile trip.
The fog was so thick you could'nt see 50 yards in front.
I made it all the way thru down town atlanta to the north side with no problems.
This is where I started thinking this maybe wasn't my best idea.
But I pushed on anyway
By the time I reached Jasper ga the weather broke and turned out to be a perfect day for a ride.
When I reached the start of the tail I decided to take a short break. There they were,Rows and rows of hardly bikes. When I walked pasted them I could hear them bitching, They couldn't buy beer on sunday.
So off I went, 318 turns in 11miles.
After about the third pass up and back down the mountain.
I went back to my first stopping point and there they were still seating around trying to decide where to go,Where they could find beer.
Now I know hardly,s don't corner very well, But do you need to be drunk to get the nerve.
I guess to get to the point.I was wondering has any one tried the rox anti vibe risers.
Cause by the time I made it home I could'nt feel my hands
Check out the picks on www.us129photos.com go to motards and trikes then page 17,18,19,or 20 I'm sure ,I'll be the red one with red tuurmaster jacket and mirror shield.
That was on 4-6-08 sunday
I don't mean to ugly, But (dammit man) that was fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CHECK IT OUT IF YOU CAN
WAYNE , 07 RED OF COURSE

Hey Wayne,
Props to you on a great ride. If I ever make it back that way, I'll try it.
As far as the hands, I've used the 11/8" ProTaper bars with Enduro
Engineering hand guards on both of my KLR's with great success. Of course
it is a very well known FACT the Red one's shake like cheap jello whilst
the '06 Green Meanies are the fastest and smooooothest of the KLR world.
My black '99 is pretty cool, but it's no longer a stocker; new suspenders
and 18" front end and all. That's the bike I would take to taste the Tail.
I've got Banner Grade, only 7.2 miles and 1800 ft downhill that would take
a crow three miles to fly. Today, there was a couple of pissed off wankers
on 600's on the grade when I passed them on the outside. No oncoming
traffic, they were cranked over, hugging the white fog line and I was just
inside the double yellow. No Chippies either. They were eating lunch in
town. My one dash for the year, I guess I'll tone it down for a while.

You know, there is something about taking a ride like this.
It will either scare the poop out you and will park your bike,Never to ride again, Or make you a better rider.
I to had several sport bikes wave me around.
Even had 2 or 3 klr's move over when they spotted me in there mirrors.

Wayne,
I can tell you that if you ride a hardly (had a few) on stretches like
the Tail or Virginia 8 or just about anything other than a superslab
in West Virginia they tend to throw sparks off the running boards or
the pegs. They also tend to lurch and dip on the hard downhill twisty
bits.

Nathan, What is REALLY annoying is that mother KHI could have easily contacted some of the high time riders (directly) and had some marvelous improvements. Instead, they collected their data indirectly, at best, hawking the boards (maybe). Maybe some factory testing--but who has the most miles? Right here at his forum and others as well. What a missed opportunity--and lost sales because the community did not have a say in the product improvement process--other that raging at their computers/friends. smile. Thanks to Sage Brush and later EagleMike and now, Thermobill, we have two nice improvements. yes? All that said, the bike is still a good-value purchase. smile.
