I use a Garmin 276C on my Gold Wing and Yamaha GTS. The 276C is
actually a marine unit, so it is more rugged and it is waterproof. It
does autorouting and has voice prompts switchable to many languages
(makes it easy to learn how to say "Turn left in 500 feet", in Farsi
for example)
The successor, the 376C, can have XM radio patched into it, enabling
the rider to not only receive radio, but real-time doppler weather and
traffic. The 376C will also do rerouting (due to traffic). I don't
yet have a mount for my KLR.
I guess it also depends on the riding environment. Some of the Garmin
units will not accept topo maps, so using the GPS off-road may be a
problem.
