duro tires?

Post by Joe » Thu Oct 11, 2001 8:38 pm

I stopped by the local Kawasaki shop after work today, to price some new rubber, and noticed a set of Duro's. The tread pattern looked somewhat like the Avon Distanzia's, but were a ton cheaper. Anyway....anyone have any feedback on these? The dealer said he'd had sold a couple of sets to some other KLR owners, but didn't yet have any feedback from them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Joe Blanchard A-15 (4500 miles) Kansas

duro tires?

I have a duro rear tire and I like it. holds on highway down to pegs and is better in mud(still not great ) than original. I only have six hundred miles on it so I don't know about durability yet . still have original front tire on front and they seem to work well together . I too liked the price$73.00 installed. duro tires?

I've been running the Duro rear for a month now. About 1000 miles and once the knobs wore in (a couple of days) it's excellent on road. Should last me 4-5000 miles of mostly street and commuting. Much better than the stockers on gravel and dirt. Less than $50 at Dennis Kirk (Buy local) -Jim Duluth

duro tires?

Post by Durvy825@aol.com » Thu Sep 19, 2002 11:05 pm

Hi everyone, I just went on a four day trip in the Ozarks over Labor day weekend. I mounted up a new Bridgestone TW 42 on the rear before I left. I put in 1,500 miles in four days in 90 degree heat at mostly sustained 80 mph and now it is half worn or better. The tire stuck real nice in the twisties, even drug the toes of my shoes a few times and it did great on gravel roads too. However, i'm thinking of trying an inexpensive Duro since I just burn rear tires off every bike i've ever owned. Does anyone have a mileage report on them or a good source for them? Do they stick well in turns? My bike came used with an IRC GP110s but the back was pretty worn so i'm not sure how well it gripped or how long it lasted, but the front works good and even buzzes in turns. Should I just get another IRC? Thanks, Dean

Got any tips on places to ride in the Ozarks? I'm going down to Crandall, Ark. in November for a DS ride, bringing the KLR, too, and may spend a couple of extra days, time and money permitting, so any suggestions would be welcome. As to your tire issues, what kind of pressures are you running? Underinflation (another term for the factory-recommended pressures) can kill your tires off in a hurry.

I can't give you a milage report since they are too new but so far I like the Duro as a street oriented dual-sport tire. They stick and corner pretty well. For more demanding off-pavement I think I will still want something more aggressive. I paid $95.00 for the set mounted and balanced (I took off the and replaced the wheels) from a local shop. I'd like to know if any of you have ran DURO tires - and if so, what did you think of them, and how many miles did you get out of them? I heard a lot of good things about them last Fall, and installed `em. So far, they've done great for the mix of riding I do. TOGA

I tried 2 sets and they are great for the traction I got out of them while they lasted but the tires suck because they chunk very easily. The 1st set I got chunked almost right away but I figured it was me or just bad luck so I bought another and guess what, same thing. I contacted Duro and they basically said sorry and thats about it. I will never buy another Duro tire. Its early in the morn or else I would go into greater detail. Brian

You must have contacted the wrong folks. When my Duro chunked (because I rode it at 70 mph for 400 miles at 21 psi) I contacted Duro, they immediately said to have it returned by my dealer for credit/ replacement. West Duro believer

Duro did not replace ANY for me. The shop where I bought the tires from replaced the first set and I ate the 2nd set. Duro didn't do jack! If contacting Duro direct is the wrong people and the shop where I bought it then I guess my bad. The tires are garbage. They are a 50/50 tire and if you run it at the right air pressure on-road (less than the max and under the speed rating which the KLR will not exceed) and air it down off-road they still fall apart. I have NEVER had tires chunk before and since I will never waste my money or Duro tires I should not have that problem anymore. If you care to see the transcripts of the conversation I have had with Duro let me know and I will gladly share them. Duro didn't take any responsibility and left me with a too bad so sad feeling from them. I know I am not the only un-happy Duro customer, I would be shocked to see any happy ones.
