American Honda Motor Company is pleased to announce that for 2008 its
off-road racing effort will take place through the support of a new
independent off-road racing team, Johnny Campbell Racing (JCR). Ten time and
current Baja 1000 Overall Champion, Johnny Campbell, is the president and
CEO of JCR.
"American Honda is enthusiastically placing its full support behind the
formation of this new team," said Bob Gurga, Assistant Vice President,
Motorcycle Marketing at American Honda. "And thanks to the vast amount of
experience and the winning tradition that Johnny Campbell brings to these
efforts, American Honda is extremely confident in the success of JCR, and is
proud to have them carry the Honda banner in off-road racing."
American Honda and JCR have entered into a multi-year agreement focused on
securing championships in the SCORE and WORCS racing series as well as
continuation of the "Pay-for-Pit" program that provides support for Honda
customers in all three Baja SCORE events. American Honda is proud of its
history-making role in off-road racing, and looks forward to many more years
of racing success with JCR in these grueling events.
As a satellite team, JCR parallels the relationship American Honda has
established in Supercross and Motocross with Factory Connection (operating
under the Torco Racing Fuels Honda banner in 2008), Erion Honda Racing in
AMA road racing and Troy Lee Racing in AMA Supermoto. JCR will campaign
exclusively on Honda's highly successful CRF450X and CRF450R models. The
team will also secure support from additional outside sponsors, and JCR's
operational facilities will be apart from the American Honda's Torrance,
California headquarters.
"This is an exciting opportunity and I'm thankful American Honda has given
my company such a great vote of confidence," said Johnny Campbell. "Having
been part of the Honda family and a member of the Honda Off-Road Race Team
for more than a decade, I'm confident JCR will continue to uphold the
world-wide reputation Honda has earned in the realm of off-road racing."
Chuck Miller, AHM Manager of Motorcycle Sports said, "There is no one better
qualified than Johnny Campbell to assume responsibilities for the Honda
Off-Road Racing Team. His racing record speaks volumes and his knowledge and
Baja experience are second to none. We look forward to many more years of
successful racing through this partnership with Johnny Campbell Racing."
