where did the doohickey parts go?
2006 KLR650 14500 miles. Just received the Doohickey kit. Removed the
side cover and Sure Nuff...The OEM Doohickey is broken. The shaft
mount portion is missing and the spring is missing.
Where do these parts go in the engine?
I suppose if I cannot find all the spare parts then I will take
photos, reinstall all of the old parts and take it to my dealer.
Fortunately I purchased the warranty so they will be responsible to
split the case and find all the loose parts.

<><><><><><><><> <><><><><><><><> Howdy, My guess is the missing parts are either on the bottom of the case or stuck up against the oil pick up screen on the right side of the engine. This is one of those times where having a magnetic drain plug might be helpful. Last thing I'd want to do to a good running KLR engine is to split the cases. I doubt the dealer would do that either. If I found myself in your situation I'd probably fish around a bit with a magnet on a flexible extension. When I serviced my oil pick up screen I found the end of the doohickey spring in it. Then I did the valves and finally, knowing I was going to find a broken spring, I did the doohickey. My reasoning was the screen might help me figure out what I was up against. It did. Then the valves so if I dropped a part into the engine it would be on the left side. I didn't. Last was the doohickey on the left side with the broken spring. Fixed in short order. Just out of curiosity did you ever try to adjust the doohickey? Was your engine making any excessive noise? How was engine vibration? I think I'd also make sure the balancer system was in time. If it was without tension for a while it could have easily jumped time a tooth or two.
