Yes indeed, in fact I have a procedure for installing one: http://klr6500.tripod.com/vistacruise.htm Although I don't use it much, I love it and wouldn't be without one. It ISN'T cruise control, it won't compensate for a change in grade, but it's saved the day a number of times. My right arm / shoulder will need a rest, or something needs adjusting or scratching that only the right hand can access, stuff like that. You thumb the lock on to hold the current throttle position, but it can easily be "overridden" in an emergency by just slightly more wrist. Also, obviously, you can just thumb the lock off in a non-emergency situation. Have any of you folks installed a NEP or Vista throttle lock? Was it model specific? Difficult to install? My used Connie came with one and now I can't do without. Any input appreciated. Dan

I have the Vista, simple install, cept you have to destroy old grip to get it on. I rarely use it though, just on real long runs. It is nice to have then though.. Sean --- Dan wrote:

Dan, I have the Vista-Cruise, universal I think. It has a part that bolts to the bar, and one that attaches to your grip, both joined by about a 2" piece that holds the throttle ON/OFF part, and I have one on each of my bikes and use it a lot! I shimmed the piece that goes onto the grip with some .020 or .030 brass shim- stock to 'tighten' it. Ed

I got the Vista-Cruz from Arrowhead Fred in Moab . It installed easily and I wouldn't be without it on long trips. I am a lousy mechanic, and it was easy for me to install. Fred's delivery services are lightning fast too. DC fasteddiecopeman wrote:

I bought the vista "univeral" (the one with the bar that runs along to a clamp on your handlebars) for my KLR and found that I couldn't reach a happy arrangement fitting the thing that clamps to the handlebar along with my switch, brake, brush guards, etc. I think the non-universal one would be a piece of cake, but I never reordered it. I did, though, stick the universal one on my nighthawk, and it's wonderful for long freeway hauls. One plus is that, at least with the universal, you don't have to mess up your existing grips (well, i didn't anyway). On a related note, the newer designed throttle rocker (the p shaped plastic thing that just clips over the grip and you rest your palm on) is an absolute POS and I hate it. Maybe the old one is better, but not being able to easily adjust its positioning on the fly makes it a dangerous pain in my butt. Luke ugly duckling a17

The new design with Velcro is due to them losing a lawsuit by another company that claimed patent infringement (going on memory here, so beware). The original non-Velcro has been very "on the fly" adjustable for me and I really like it. Not sure about the quality of the one by the folk that won the lawsuit, but the idea was that they were available wherever fine Harley stuff is sold. -- Doug Herr doug@...

I use a Throttlemeister on my KLR650. It's pricey, but is well made and will last a lifetime. All the parts are machined metal, and the operation is quite smooth. In addition, there are two bar ends for each handlebar end for symmetry. These bar ends add weight that cuts down on handlebar vibration. I purchased my Throttlemeister from Touratec years ago, and be sure that you get the right adapter for a KLR's diameter bars. Nick in Newark, DE [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I have used a Throttlemeister on my other bike, it's great. However, a Throttlemeister on a KLR is like installing a satellite TV dish and plasma screen TV in a '71 VW bus. I don't think there would be any problems dropping the KLR onto it, but it would get hit. Over and over and over again, in my case. The Vista Cruise is just the ticket. Inexpensive, functional, and time tested. Cheers CA Stu
