service manual
Can anyone tell me where I can find a good service manual/video for a
KLR650 on the net. I can't seem to find anything at amazon. I'd
like to do the valve adjustment myself.
Thanks,
Jim

Here's a list of links and info - for the valve job I don't think you'd really need the official factory manual. Jay Duchin made a video of the job, and as I remember it, all the info you'll need is included: If you want to purchase the soon to famous KLR vavle adjustment VIDEO send me a check for 24.00. Ah bahgin (MA speak for a great deal) shipping is included and a portion of the proceeds go towards the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foudation. Drop me an email and you'll get my address. PhantomRider3@... You can see stills from the actual video at: http://www.angelfire.com/mo/motormark/PhantomRiderValveCheckVideo.html The factory manuals are really your only choice, nobody else has them. You'd have to buy the base manual for a 1984 KLR600, and then the supplement for the year bike that you own; and then let the cross-referencing fun begin. There ARE a bunch of of great Internet links that should provide pretty much all the info you need, unless you really get into the nitty gritty of it. Check out: DSN tech Info: http://www.dualsportnews.com/klr/klrpage.html I compiled the info from Eldon and others to produce a valve adjustment guide for newbies that may be of some help to you at some point: http://klr6500.tripod.com/ http://klr6500.tripod.com/valves.html Another valve adjustment guide that is good for its numerous pictures is: http://www.finishlinewest.com/klr_650_valve_adjustment.htm For parts and accessories, most of us deal with Fred Hink for fast and reliable service: fred@... or his website: http://www.angelfire.com/ut/fred/parts.html Dave "Jake" Jakeman has stainless steel replacement bolts, and other stuff: http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/sagebrush_machine_shop.html jake_sagebrush@... Dan "beirdo" Oaks has the KListerR stickers, and other stuff: bierdo@... The only service manuals for the KLR are from Kawasaki. You will need both
the Base and Supplement for your bike to have a complete reference source.
The soon to be "classic" Valve Job for Dummies video that was made by Jay
Duchin is all you really need to be able to adjust your valves. It is a
complete source for everything you would need to know. It is much better
looking at moving pictures and having the excellent narration that Jay has
done on this video. It is a real "bahgin" at any price. I stock Jay's
video and the shims. I usually have the service manuals but am out right
now. I should have more service manuals back in stock soon.

While sitting here waiting to pick up my bike...... I was searching
for the Clymer manual and was wondering if there is any difference in
the years. The newest one I have seen goes up to 2004. They have up
to year 2003 on Ebay for about $20 plus shipping. Would there be
anything missing for my 06?
Thanks,
Matt B.

Hi Matt,
For me, saving a couple of bucks on Ebay is not worth the wait when
you could haave the manual today, unless of course, it is 1/2 price on
ebay, etc. On the other hand, most of what you want is in the KLR FAQ
sheet. Print that out and put it in a three ring binder.

Is there any reason to buy the Kawasaki Service Manual Supplement if you
already have the Clymer manual? I see the Supplement also for sale,
published by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, for the KLR650 and 500, and
wondered if there was something really useful in it.
Thanks

I like the Cylmer better. How involved do you think you will want to
get in to it since the factory manuals will be more expensive?

looking for dealer near los angeles, ca to service my 2007 klr 650
I'm looking for a new dealer to service my 2007 KLR 650 near Los
Angeles, CA. I'm not happy w/ the dealer that I'm currently using and
would appreciate input from group members. Ideally I would like to go
somewhere that knows KLR 650's well. I will be using them for standard
service as well as some additional stuff, e.g., Doohickey installation
and installation of Renthal handlebars. Thanks- DC
