So... why not buy a few shares, and collect dividends paid by the "tight
cabal" of publicly traded oil production and distribution companies. If you
do a little homework a 15% annual return is, well, ho-hum....
As for corporate "externalization" of costs - moving costs to individuals or
entities outside the corporations - many times unknowingly paid by the
bearer of the the expense - results from the legal mandate given
corporations. Make a profit, or else. As long as we citizens allow it,
nothing will change. Problem is, we like our lifestyle with all the cheap
products... like food, gasoline, clothes, and don't really want to become
too involved in the gritty details of industrial accidents, cancer
increases, slave-like life style of exploited developing countries, and
environmental destruction resulting from the amoral, plundering corporate
profit motive. Don't forget all of the "taxing authorities" that have their
hand out all along the production and consumption cycle.
I know, sounds like I'm anti-capitalism. Not so, but a realistic
understanding of the situation and risk assessment *must* be part of any the
analysis.
Hmmm.... that's more than two words. Guess I'll get down off my soap box and
shut up for a while ;~)
