I didn't see any mention of the price of the Kawasaki part.

It looks like it's die cast, or forged from powdered metal. I still prefer my billet one I ordered from Fred. Still thinking about the torsion spring though. Darren Clark 2004 KLR650 A-18 (Running the best of the 3 balancer chain adjusters!) vospertw wrote:

You seem to be a very intelligent engineer from reading your past posts. Can you enlighten us as to your thoughts on the torsion spring? Fred

My apologies all. I answered Jud last night only to realize I replied directly to him. The parts were $31.95 for the lever and $5.95 for the spring. Todd [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

In my OP, http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/DSN_KLR650/message/172120> I asked some questions that may be typical of those bouncing around in the heads of would-be KLR owners everywhere. Many thanks to all the folks who took the time to send their replies to my questions, both in this thread and via email. It sure is tough sometimes, being a noob! While waiting to see what responses were submitted, I had time to do a bit more looking around on the web. Based on the answers I received here and the Internet reviews that have appeared lately I believe I have made my decision. I am going to buy a 2008 KLR650 with the optional gel seat, tall windshield, tank and tail bags, and center stand. Since I will do most of my riding on paved roads with occasion excursions onto forest service and other dirt roads, I believe this combination will serve me well. I want a new 2008 KLR so much I will just have to deal with anything that comes up. I am hoping the issue with seat height will be partly solved by the gel seat, if the seat is a little lower than the stock one. I haven't owned a bike in over 20 years. That's way too long to be without one. Anticipating the arrival of this new machine has me looking forward to riding in a way that I haven't felt in years. I will be sure to post a review after I have gotten a few hundred miles on the odo. Thanks again for the help and for making me feel welcome in the DSN_KLR650 forum. MJ
