Kind of stating the obvious, but don't write off eBay and other used areas. I was going to buy a pair of $125 MX boots when I coincidentally stumbled across a pair of Sidi Forces for sale on the advrider webpage. The boots I've always wanted, not even broken in yet, for $175 shipped to my door. Blows the doors off the cheap Thors I was looking at. Sites like advrider seem a good buy, too--lots of BMW folks with thicker wallets than me (who therefore don't flinch at the thought of unloading almost new boots for half what they paid a week ago). -Luke

I ordered a pair of Sidi Discovery boots in their largest size but had to send them back because they run small and didn't fit. Much more protective than the Oxtar Matrix I ended up buying, but probably less comfortable.

Sylvain, Yes I do have both the Oxtar Matrix and Infinity boots. BUT, the Infinity are new in the box back home in WA state and thus can't comment on that pair. I did get some positive feedback before buying them : waterproof and fair to good protection for light dual sport use. I classify the KLR riding I do as generally light as single track with those acompanying type of obstacles are no fun IMO on a heavy 650. I also use MX boots. On the DRZ400E for dirt only use. The Alpenstars tech 6 are clumsy and uncomfortable for walking IMO. The Oxtar Matrix boots are very good: great comfort including walking, positively waterproof, have good protection in critical areas but have not had to field test the protection, but a little to light for off road use I thought. I appreciate everyones comments! I think that the Oxtar Infinity boots are looking good. While I could get some MX style boots, I want some comfort. In the old days I'd get some MX hands down --but back then I was riding a YZ 250 and young and wild. Now it's street, dirt roads, some trails but nothing too wild. KLR 650 A20

I have both the Matrix and the Infinitys. The Matrix is my everyday riding to work and touring boot. The Infinity is used for dual sport rides, I just spent a week in them in Death Valley. Both boots are comfortable right out of the box but the Infinity is slightly less comfortable as it is taller and stiffer. But being taller and stiffer it offers more protection. If I arbitrarily rated my AlpineStar M8 motocross boots as a 10 for protective capability I'd probably rate the Infinity an 8 or so and the Matrix maybe a 5. The Matrix boots have proven to be 100% waterproof in daily Seattle use (lots of rain). The Infinitys have not yet been rain tested by me but they have the same Gore-Tex liner as the Matrix boot so I have every reason to believe that they will prove to be just as waterproof. Several people have compared the Oxtar Infinity to the BMW Sahara boot. Their consensus is the boots are identical, that Oxtar makes the Sahara for BMW.
