trip to europe
Hi Fellows,
On the trip to Europe, I have decided to rent a bike over there in France. I have done research with moving company's, way to expensive one way. I can buy a new KLR650 for that price. I will be in the French Pyrenees area where my job will be. Nice roads and mountains to explore.
Thanks for the advice Jeff S. on International Driving License, I won't need one since I will only be there for 3 weeks.

I just got back from that area a month ago. Great roads for scenery
and driving either in a bike or a car. I went from around the Foix /
Mirepoix / Montsegur area in the southern Pyrenees to up in the
Gavarnie (Primo) / Lourdes / Biarritz area. The people we met were
great. We found a great wine also. Madiran. I haven't found it here.
Lot of bikes on the roads there. I just used my regular drivers
license to rent ze car.

Thanks for the info. Yes, it is beautiful country. I know the mayor in a small village called Illartein. I plan to stay with her and her husband while there. Yes, I have been to Foix, St. Girons, Biarritz areas. I also do flyfishing where I was going to use the bike up in the Pyrenees. The scenery is spectacular, as well as the views.

Hi Greg, So you think you will only be there 3 weeks? Set in concrete? Since it is work, and not a vacation you are going on, I would spend the money for a driver's license, and be prepared. You never know when something like that will be extended. I went to Israel for 7 days of work once, packed for 8 days, and stayed 3 weeks. I never let that happen again. I think the International Drivers Lic is $10 at AAA. (at least the last one I bought was $10.) Don't know how much European travel experience you have... so, another little tip for free. Buy a 12 pack of the pocket Kleenex packs to carry with you. Public restrooms are often without TP, and I don't think I need to draw you a picture of what that is like...and it is common to leave a small coin-tip in a dish by the sink. The cleaning of the toilet is often done by a woman, for the small coins that are left for her. (She might be in the 'loo with you while you are doing your business (Germany, Italy, France, Belgium). revmaaatin. 5 years in Europe, seldom with out a back-up TP Kleenex pack in my travel-kit Disclaimer: no, I don't have Kleenex stock...or receive small coins for European advice.> > Greg-06klr650

HI Revmaaatin,
No, it is not set in stone the 3 weeks but, I was one step ahead of you. I am packing for 4 weeks and emailed my friends, I can do washing at their place. Yes, I have been to Europe for the past ten years. This is a business trip.It is only now that I have my bike and am very interested in riding in the mountains. I have been there in car driving through the mountains etc, and you are correct about the kleenex. That takes place all over Europe. Better safe than sorry (Kleenex wise I mean). You are correct the International Drivers License cost at AAA is only 10 bucks.
I usually leave change I have left over in the dish or on the lavatory when in the restroom.

swingarm gouging caused by bent passenger peg... cause for alarm?
Hey there.
So, I dropped my bike a couple months ago and bent the passenger
footpeg back far enough for it to scrape a 1-2mm gouge/score all the
way down the right side of the aluminum swingarm. I've still been
riding the bike daily, and I'm about to order a replacement, but I'm
curious if there have been reports of swingarms snapping in this
condition. Should I garage the bike until its replaced, or am I
relatively safe here?
Thanks,
Ben
