no choke on the klr?

Any one out there installed a rifle scabbard to the KLR? ie for a 30/30 lever gun or a scoped bolt gun. Any information would be helpful, please cc to martin_earl@....

I havent installed a rifle, but I carry a sheathed machete on the side. I hooked the top of the sheath to the Wolfman tank bag straps and the body of the machete sits firmly within the Happy trails PD nerf guards. Works really well and looks like a cavalry!

I'm sorry I don't have info on a scabbard, but they obviously make one, and here's why I know. In '87 I was camped at Hite's crossing by Lake Powell with an '86 KLR600. I was getting gas at the little store/gas station at Hite's when another KLR600 pulled up to the pumps. It had a little guy about 5'5" in his late 20's riding it. He nearly had to step on the pump step-ups to get off the bike. He had what appeared to be a 30.30 lever-action rifle in a scabbard mounted on the area on his front fork. I thought...wow, the great white hunter. I'm from Texas, I have nothing against hunting, but this whole scenario looked kinda...weird. I started to talk to the guy to make conversation and see what was up. I can't understand what he's saying, but it's definitely French. I don't even remember what state the plate was on the bike. We couldn't understand each other, so we said goodbye and went our separate ways. It was a very interesting thing to say the least. After leaving, I got this mental picture of a French guy, riding off into the sunset with his western rifle like he was playing out a an old movie role as John Wayne or something. If you think your KLR is 'fast' or 'powerful' or 'handles great,' you've been seriously misled. But if you think your KLR is the best bang for the dual-sport buck, a bike that's half pack mule/half twisty tamer, a bike that goes long and deep and carries you down the superslab as well as it carries you off the beaten path, a bike that's happiest when you point it towards the middle of nowhere and park it for the night at a remote campsite...then you haven't been misled at all. 8~) __Arden
