A dealer told me it's $100 extra for the lime green KLR650. Is this true; never heard such a thing
excpet for metallic paint on some cars.
By the way, what color is your '06?

Better yet, list the dealers name here and those of us that choose too, can
complain to Kawasaki USA about this dealer.

What are you going to complain about? Have you tried to buy a Ford GT? I
think they are about $120,000 MSRP. But the dealers are going to get you for
about another $50,000.
That is the way it works. Every dealer of just about everything works this
way. If the green ones are more popular, they will charge more. Uh, its
called supply and demand.
If the green ones weren't selling, would you shed a tear if the dealer
dropped the price below MSRP to clear the inventory?????
Jeff A20 Red (at the time the green was the same price)

Ok, sorry but I can't let this go without putting in my 2cents on
this one. What country are we in? Is this America or what???
Rather than a "Better Yet" response to complain to Kawasaki USA. My
Best Yet response to those who think complaining to Kawasaki is a
good idea. I'd say they would really be better off spending some time
getting an education in economics and capitalism instead. Last I knew
Kawasaki does not require it's dealers it has to sell for a set
price. Why do you think it's called MSRP(manufactures suggested
retail price), after all it's not MRequiredRP! See new Harley prices
of a few years back for the best example of way way over MSRP
pricing. If the dealer wants to sell a bike for $100 more maybe it's
because he knows there's more demand for that color in his area and
will be able to sell it for that much. After all the man works hard
and is in business to make the amount of money he can. Personally I
think it's foolish of the dealer to do this on this color bike since
it's not shown on the Kawasaki website to be a higher MSRP. Only if
all dealers are selling for $100 more then sure it makes sense. If
not and he has salesmen worth a salt they will certainly sell more
than just this bike to a customer at the time the bike sells. So I'd
say find your profit there instead of $100 more on the bike. The best
advice came from the what the previous poster had said "just find
another dealer". One thing to consider is...Would complainers be so
quick to complain when the dealer has a blow out sale and is selling
his hard to move items for less than cost. I don't think so,
especially if the complainer was looking at one of the sale items
previuosly at the original asking price. Obiviously some people have
not had a good education in economics and certainly do not run there
own small business to suggest that complaining to Kawasaki is the
answer. It's no wonder we still have so many foolish Democrat voters
in this country.
Sincerely,
Bob
P.S. We can all thank gov. schools for the previous posters
complaining type logic I'm sure.

I agree with everything said by Bob.
Also, note that the dealer is still selling for below MSRP!
The quoted price is what,? $5399 OTD, and $100 more for green? Whoop de
doo...OTD! OTD! OTD!
That is still BELOW MSRP for the bike, then add tax, license, and the usual
prep, transportation, misc BS, etc.
If you want to buy the bike for MSRP, I'm sure the dealer will sell it to
you for that price!
(duh - you will pay about $6000 OTD that way.
.............so stop complaining...........

By all means vote with your dollar. Pay $5k or $6k out the door. Or you could go to a more reasonable dealer and pay ~$4,600 OTD. By all means go pay MSRP + $1k because this is a capitalist society and paying 20+ % over MSRP is capitalism. Maybe I misinderstood the previous posts but I don't think I did. I think the purpose of his list and being an informed consumer means not over paying for products and services and saving money. I could and have been wrong before. Wow, I have two red KLR's, a 05 & 06, and still can't see the color
when I'm riding on top of them. I paid less than msrp in both cases

$4600 OTD?? Where?
For what it is worth, I was with the dealer discussing his profit on my
deal, mine was $5199 OTD, at a time when the MSRP was $5199
When you take away the government taxes, the cost to him was about $4650.
After paying a reasonable transportation fee (like $60), and after receiving
his "holdback", and some misc other ad reimbursements, he was going to make
about $450.
Seems very fair to me. I will give the dealer the benefit of the doubt and
assume he is in this to make a profit.
I asked him why sell so cheap. He said he makes his money on volume. He
said he sells about 20 KLR's a month.
This dealer had a very basic, no frills warehouse with at least 200 new
bikes, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Moto Guzzi, Triumph, ATC's, etc. etc.
It didn't seem like B.S. to me.

That certainly sounds about right Jeff. Dealer profit margin on a
KLR650 (the bike itself) after all costs are considered is normally
well below 10%. Ad rembursement is just a partial recovery (50% at
most) of his advertising moneys already spent. Most dealers even with
well run dealerships are certainly not getting rich quickly the
bigger ones and the ones that say Harley Davidson on the outside of
the building are the ones that do so more often. For the rest it's a
long term investment in property and sales that allows for retirement
and a comfortable living. That is after they put in many years of 12
hour days, 6-7 days a week and such. In this day where so many
businesses have little reguard for there customer a good dealer or
independent is still worth his weight in gold in my opinion, even if
like me you can do 95% of everything needed without any of their help.
