fairing/headlight stay needed

I have one but you might be better off getting one of the take-offs on eBay. That is one of the items they remove doing the military converson. They usually go pretty cheap. Are these bikes suppose to have a windshield on them when you buy them from the dealer? The parts man says yes the dealer is stroking me, who knows for sure? Per the parts catalog the stock windshield is perfect, aftermarket windshields are to tall as far as I can tell. Any info would be very helpful at this time, thanks.
