I just purchased a 2004 KLR and was wondering if anyone could tell me
if there are any publications or Web sites that have info on touring
in certain states on motorcycles.
Thanks for your help.

rbarr53,
You don't say which states but you could get the Delorme XXXState
Gazetteer for each state you're interested in. They are usually pretty
good about showing all the backroads. But those are just maps. Best
price I've ever seen on them is $13.95 each with free shipping on orders
over $25 at www.amazon.com . Search for XXXState Gazetteer and it'll
probably pop up with the one you want. The Utah and Arizona Gazetteers
are on the way to my house now. I already have the ones for SD, NE, KS,
MT, ID, WY and CO.
You could also check out www.whitehorsepress.com and see what touring
books they have.
If you are looking for a dirt tour check out the Great Divide Ride going
from Canada to Mexico. They just started a group like this one just for
the Great Divide Ride. I think you can get on it at the yahoo groups and
search for GreatDivideRide or maybe it's GreatDivideTrail.
Another ride that sounds pretty good is the Trans American Trail from
Tennessee to Oregon. I think you can learn more at www.trailscout.com
but I'm not positive about that anymore.

rbarr53, Couple of web sites are pashnit.com and advrider.com , though pashnit.com is aimed at California sportbike riders and advrider.com spends all its time arguing about yellow GoldWing riders (heh!) instead of discussing adventure touring, but you can still lurk and see a few interesting things go by ... Most states or areas have web sites somewhere that discuss some of their great rides, you might want to let us know what states you're interested in? -E>rbarr53, > >You don't say which states but you could get the Delorme XXXState >Gazetteer for each state you're interested in. >

These are mostly along the interstates or in larger towns, a possible disadvantage. So far, I've found nothing better than a DeLorme bungied to my gas tank. don a17> > > You don't say which states but you could get the Delorme XXXState > Gazetteer for each state you're interested in. > > I buy mine at Sam's Club for $10 or $11. There are some moto-touring books at www.whitehorsepress.com. Or if
you have questions about specific areas or techniques, just ask them
here.

Go to www.whitehorsePress.com and get a copy of their
catalog, "Whitehorse Gear." It has a whole section of books on
motorcycle touring, dozens of them for all parts of the U.S. and
world. You could e-mail them at CustomerService@...
and ask for a catalog. Its full of good stuff and I have found them
good to do business with.

For what it is worth, I installed a Dual Star radiator guard while I did my valve check. It fit perfectly, and took 5 minutes. Just don't overtighten the top bolt, as I would guess you could crush the sheet metal.

Just finished installing the Happy Trails radiator and coolant tank
bar/protector and it was a pain! If you ever need to install this,
insert the top screw last and start from the bottom up. It will be a
lot easier.
