aftermarket exhaust
Hi Friends,
So, I have a new 2001 KLR650 and was wondering if anyone has put an
exhaust on one yet. Cobra says that their systems only fit
through '98. But I assume they will fit 2001 since there have been no
apparent changes to the bike (except the great new paint scheme). I
was also wondering if anyone has tried the Big Gun system? It seems
great but is really expensive ($370 plus anonther $90 for a USFS
spark arrestor). I keep hearing bad things about the supertrapp
silencers, any thought on this also.

i assume the archives are still broken, because all your questions are
answered there in lurid detail. if they aren't broken, go search 'em. if
they are, then here's the reader's digest large-print summary of what i
 remember:

 1. cobra sucks pondwater. everyone who bought one hated it and thought they
 wasted their money.
 2. big gun is LOUD!, but beautifully made. ca stu has some thoughts on his.
apparently the quiet version is tolerable now.

 3. supertrapp is okay. i have one (IDS2). it seems to work fine, but i got a
little annoyed at the noise with 12 discs, and with 6 discs i'm not sure
 it's any faster than stock.

if i had to do it all over again, i'd probably just stick with stock. if you
want to go faster, buy a bigger bike (or a lighter bike).

I've had my eyes on a Laser ProDuro, but it seems that the potential
importer for these (Fred) has held off on word that Steve Kesselring is
developing a high performance exhaust for the KLR. Who knows when either of
 these will be available?
In the meantime, I'll stick with my tweety stocker until............?

I like mine, it is louder than shiznit, but if you get the USFS sparky "quiet" core, and keep out of the throttle , it's tolerable. If you want to wake the dead, put on the race core and give it some stick, you will be popping eardrums all over the neighborhood. It seems to give a lot more low end as well as a lot of over-rev, but I'm no rocket scientist... You do lose quite a bit of weight with the BG system over the stocker, also>2. big gun is LOUD!, but beautifully made. ca stu has some thoughts on his. >apparently the quiet version is tolerable now.

Indeed. I think the money would be better spent on suspension, and a good set of tires. If you must have a cool looking, hi-po exhaust, get a BG. see it at http://www.egroups.com/files/DSN_klr650/Big+Gun+2nd+Generation+pics/>want to go faster, buy a bigger bike (or a lighter bike). >mw

I received word from Steve a week or two ago that the manufacturing facility
he is dealing with has the pipes for KLR's just about ready. I'll spare you
all the details but suffice it to say he some long standing issues appear to
be on the verge of resolution.

Quality Engine's site is in the archives.

Apologies for he following NKLR request: I am trying to contact anyone in a
purchasing management and/or VP level position with over-the-road and
long-haul trucking comanies to discuss the possibility of a strategic
partnership. I have been trying for two months and am getting no response. I
don't have alot of experience in this venue. Can anyone point me at a
 resource?

 Thanks in advance.

Installed a Big Gun exhaust, K&N air filter, and a
DynoJet kit about 5000 miles ago. VERY happy with the
results. I'd definately buy another Big Gun pipe. The
Big Gun people even answer their e-mail. BTW, every
single aftermarket pipe on all my past bikes required
 a carb rejet, no exceptions.

aftermarket exhaust
I recently purchased the KLR 650. Very cool and fun bike to ride.
The stock exhaust and muffler suck. Does anybody know of a good kit
to add to it to make it better? I was hoping for performance and a
 nice loud sound.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I thought a fox values stealth. Why do you want to make noise ? Bogdan> I recently purchased the KLR 650. Very cool and fun bike to ride. > The stock exhaust and muffler suck. I got a used Two Bros racing can and melted the baffles so I drilled
the rivets and just removed them, Welded it back together and now you
can hear me coming from a mile away.. Perfoamance is better IMHO but
 I need to re-jet too.
