Hey everyone, well I have a gas leak I am trying to figure out...it appears to be coming from somewhere around where the two vent ports come off of the lower portion of the back of the gas tank, tucked down below the seat. I replaced both hoses and the "leak" still exists....does that mean that maybe something else is plugged up not alowing the flow of gasoline to and fro it's natural couse through the evaporation/overflow hoses? Can that little canister plug up?... It is a 2000 KLR with 70,000 miles on it.... Sorry for the limited terms I am tired and I don't want to get the manual from upstairs right now to properly explain everything...I was just hoping someone else may have had the same experience and have a quick understanding/knowledge of what is happening. That's my thought as well.. but it sounds like he's got a California spec KLR. Anyone have a diagram an emission "equipped" bike?

Reference # 16165 Listed as "separator" is the closest thing to the tank and that's where the lines go. I'd suggest taking the tank off completely, make sure it's dry and then see if it leaks at all. Could just be the tank itself. How about the fuel shutoff?

No, its not. I'm also thinkin' those evaporative canisters don't do a whole heck of a lot after a while, and that'd be a MIGHTY nice place to wire up a small compressor. My emissions stuff fell off both my KLRs, too. I reckon a more useful use of the space would be for a small first aid kit, a tool kit, or a humidor. A bicycle pump in the tail bag is all you need for airing up and airing down for off road. Thanks CA Stu

Well I got some responses back, and yes it is a California model...but what I have been hearing from most that the tank might be cracked initially doesn't jive BUT either tonight or tomorrow I am going to take a closer look at it. The last time I pulled the seat off to replace the two hoses coming off the rear end of the tank the fuel was all over that part of the tank, all around where the two hose attach to the tank, MAYBE it is cracked somewhere around there and I will look closely... Oh ya the other factor to keep in mind is that the leak is not steady, wherever and however the fuel is leaking from the system only happens once and a while ( A few times a day if I am riding it around town)... I am going to spend some time like I said later tonight or tomorrow looking at it...I will clean it up and ride around with the seat off trying to see how and when it is occuring AND I will take a really close look at the tank. on another bike (old XT) I had a leak in the upper left portion of the tank. it would leak only occasionnally (full tank + sharp left turns). took me a while to find that tiny crack .. hey, i also got a CA model. What is this system for ? does it matter ? good luck, --karim
