oil filter fitting

I changed the oil on my (new to me) $800.00 KLR this afternoon, and I'm concerned about something. The steel tube that passes through the filter doesn't seem to "fit" in either the cover or the engine case. One end is machined to a slightly smaller diameter than the rest of the tube. That end drops into either the case or the cover with a huge amount of slop. The other end is too large in diameter to fit in either the engine case, or the cover. I ordered a clymer manual today, but it will be a while before I get it. Can someone enlighten me please? TIA Jim

First off best of luck with the new KLR. It is a great bike. The machined end of the oil filter tube does just fit into the engine and the cover then just holds tube and filter in place. I agree the fitment is loose and sloppy, but that may be designed to be easy to put back together and allow the cover to center it and then hold it in place. I agree, one might think the machined hole should be more precise so the tube fits in snugly and then routes oil more effectively. There are probably others on the list who may give a more technical explanation than I. Just wanted you to know you are putting it back together correctly. again, good luck, Todd A16 03 F7

I put the DJ kit in my A11 to cure a surge at 4000 rpm. It worked great. Pretty sure I left the main jet the same, you might check to see if yours is larger than stock (sorry, don't remember the numbers or which slot my needle clip is in). I installed the DJ needle and drilled the slide, also backed out the pilot needle.
