klr truck ramp?

Post by Brian Smith » Sun Sep 04, 2005 4:10 pm

Do any of you guys know where I can get a nice ramp that I can use to put my KLR in the back of my truck? I'd like a ramp that is at least 2 feet wide so I can easily walk the bike up it. I live by myself, so I would not have anybody to help me most of the time, and I don't want to mess with a narrow portable ramp that I will end up dropping the bike off of. I found a couple on the Harbor Freight website that look like they will do the job: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=90555 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=94057 However, when I went to the local retail store I was not able to find either of these. The people working there were not very helpful either. They were all a bunch of ignorant high school kids with bad attitudes. I suppose I could just order one off the website, but I would like to be able to see one in person before I buy it.

Check JC Whitney online. You will find ramps and the parts to make your own there (except the lumber, of course). I made mine for about $50. John Napa, CA --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Brian Smith" wrote:

Oh yeah, there was some discussion about this a few days ago and some good ideas there, too. You might want to look back in the list of messages. John Napa, CA --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Brian Smith" wrote:

Brian, Check out this ramp from Harbor Freight: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=90018 I've been using it for quite a while now with 2, 3, and 4 wheelers. I've rode, walked beside and pushed all three on at different times. Do the large gaps in it cause any problems? I looked at a similar one at a local farm supply store, but I think I'd like something more solid like the other 2 ramps I saw on the Harbor Freight site. Also, any good recommendations for tie downs? The ones I saw today all seemed a little flimsy.

Brian, The large gaps don't cause any problems.... I start my bike and "clutch it" up the ramp.... I always make sure another person is "healing" the ramp or has the safety cable that came with the ramp attached between the ramp and my trucks hitch... I can't remember the make of my ramp, but it folds out in two halves and is spec'ed at 1500lbs.... Got it off my Kaw dealer for $180.00... As far as tie downs, go to Advanced Auto Parts... Again, I can't remember the make, but they are blue in color, cost $16.95/pair and are 1300lb test.... Mike.... --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Brian Smith" wrote:

oil leak from water pump

Carl, While you're changing the impeller seals, you should go ahead and clean the oil screen too. You can fix it from the right side. No need to split the cases. Make sure you get all the seals and the o-ring. My dealer had to order them for me and it took about 10 days. I bet Fred at www.arrowheadmotorsports.com has them on hand and you could have them by the end of the week. I just got mine to have available when mine or a friend's go bad. Make sure you use silicate free coolant. I just saw some reasonably priced wide ramps in the Northern Supply catalog. __Arden --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Brian Smith" wrote:
