givi top rack rattles

Post by Blake Sobiloff » Thu Mar 31, 2005 1:15 pm

Hi all, I installed a Givi V42 top case last weekend via the Givi adapter plate for our rear racks. I couldn't get the "wedge" piece that you screw onto the trailing edge of the adapter plate to snug up tight to the plate. (Or, more accurately, I was afraid to apply any more torque to the Allen-head mounting screws to get the wedge tight.) Now, with the millimeter or two of free play that the wedge has, I have this annoying tinkly rattling sound as I ride, even with the case in place. Is the wedge supposed to be snug? If so, should I just crank away at the mounting screws, or should I just buy shorter screws? TIA! -- Blake Sobiloff San Mateo, CA (USA)

I have had good luck with a bicycle clock/computer. I swiped it off my mountain bike about three years ago and velcro'd it on my KLR's dash. Been working like a charm ever since. Gets lots of rain (I live in the Northwest) and have had no trouble with vibration or being able to see it. Just check out any decent bicycle shop, they are pretty inexpensive these days if you just buy a basic computer since all you really want is the clock use. Troy
