It's time to replace my original rear, about 5100 miles. I ride nearly daily to work, but I also ride with my wife on country asphalt, fire roads, etc. and very rarely by myself on single track. I can sometimes be aggressive in curves, even two up, so I need a very predictable tire. I am considering the Dunlop D606 or the Kings KT-966. both are available locally, Dunlop $67.99 King $51.99 Anyone ever try both and have a preference? Tom

Ummmm is not the 606 a outright knobby and the 966 more like the OEM street tire (ok.. and light trail use) Seems to me mount the tire that fits your riding style. 5100 miles on the OEM ... Wow...almost 3000 and my rear was bald toast. Dooden A15 Green Ape

It is quite a bit more aggressive than the OEM tire. Kurt [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Have you considered a Maxxis C6006 tire? I replaced my stock tires with them and they wear very well. They are somewhere between the Dunlop 606 and the stock tire. Very similar to the Kings KT-966, but even cheaper. I'm really amazed you got 5100 miles out of your stock tires. I only got about half that. Jerry

Tom, I don't think you'll enjoy corning aggressively on the 606, that is not its forte. Based on what Kurt's being saying I think you would find the 966 to be the better fit for your riding style. From my own experiences I'd suggest giving the IRC GP1 a try at some point. I find them to be predictable enough on pavement to lean the back until the footpegs are touching and are still more than enough of a dirt tire for what it sounds like you'll be riding. I have a Kings KT-966 on mine now. Due to the weather, I haven't put a ton of miles on it, but it seems to be wearing better than the Cheng Shin C858 I had on before. My stock rear tire only gave me 2800 miles, so I must admit I'm impressed you got 5100 out of yours. My only thought on the Kings tire, is it needs to be aired down if you're going to do much in the dirt. I haven't tried the Dunlop. If memory serves me correctly, aren't the stock tires made by Dunlop? I know it's a different model, but the stock tires wear so poorly, that I've shied away from Dunlop tires completely. Just my two cents worth, so far I've been pretty pleased with the King's. Lance Branson, MO A17
