The hole can be filled with epoxy and re-drilled should you wish to go back. If you want to get fancy the slide could be drilled and tapped to 1/8" NPT so an aluminum Allen-head plug drilled to you size of preference can used. An assortment drilled to various sizes can be utilized if you are a tuning freak. My machine shop guy told me that no epoxy works well around gasoline. I did plug a leaky auto gas tank once. Forgot what I used.> > The hole can be filled with epoxy and re-drilled should you wish to go back.
Now that sounds doable and not that difficult. Bogdan, who still thinks Dooden should leave his slide alone.> If you want to get fancy the slide could be drilled and tapped to 1/8" NPT > so an aluminum Allen-head plug drilled to you size of preference can used.

A few MPG ? Like that matters on a bike with 14/45 sprockets. But am curious what "not much power benefits" really means, I really cant see it giving more power, mostly thinking a crisper throttle response, well actually more like a throttle response is what I am looking for since the carb seems really slow from twist to Yeeeeeeeeeehaw. I know the slower response is easy to control, but times when you need power like 1.5 seconds ago, a crisp respose would be nice without slipping the clutch to get RPM's up when riding places off the trails and over the hill and through the woods. So what is the group idea on this ? Drill the slide or not and what positive/negative effect ? Dooden A15 Green Ape (hibernating)> much power benefits. Others have regretted it. > > Bogdan

I dont think you can put a 1/8 pipe plug in the slide. (from memory) there isnt enough material in the slide to tap. the plug will either interfere with the spring or with the flow of air going through the carb. the plug might add weight to the slide and cause it not to work properly. I think epoxy would be better or just but a relpacement from Harley and sell the drilled one on ebay> freak. > > Walt > A14 "War Horse" (drilled with no regrets)

It's pretty simple guys. You either want crisper throttle response, or you don't. You will lose 1 or 2 mpg for the mod, big whoop. I and others that I have done the mod for knew what to expect from the mod, did the mod, and are really happy with the mod. It's just a slightly bigger hole to allow the slide to go up quicker. No more power over all, just more power when you want it. MrMoose A8 (Barbie and Ken special)> and over the hill and through the woods. > > So what is the group idea on this ? And with the 95 and 99 KLR's that I have done the Dynajet/Pipe mods to, once I got the jetting dialed back in my gas mileage was pretty much the same as what I got stock. Maybe that is a side effect of being jetted for alitude, but that has been my experience with the KLR, but the other street bikes I have put Dynajet kits on. Welcome to the list!
Please , cut your rings in hard and at mid-rpm WOT levels after the motor is
warmed up. The first hour is key.
EVERYTHING ELSE can wait.

Hello
My first post. I drove home my new klr 650 today. I have posted the pics.
Any advice for the new guy will be appreciated.

I don't regret drilling mine. I like the quicker throttle response.

Enlarging the hole in the slide doesn't add any power. It simply lets the
slide react quicker to the pressure differentials, hence the crisper throttle
response. because the slide rises quicker, the engine can suck in a greater
volume of air, which sucks a greater volume of gas through the main jet, past the
needle into the engine where this greater potential for is converted into the
energy that increases the torque by giving a harder push to the power stroke
yielding a proportional gain in horsepower since hp = torque*rpm/5252, which is
why the horsepower curve always crosses the torque curve at 5252 rpm, if the
engine can rev that high.

On the street, that's not really a big issue, but off road crisp throttle
response makes all the difference as you rail a corner.
