nklr-my arse is sore from only 300 miles!?!

Post by Baron Tynan » Sat Dec 11, 2004 7:56 pm

Gentlemen/women, I just returned from one of SoCals awesome winter days riding on various N. San Diego back country trails. I am running into a constant concern. To put it bluntly: my arse hurts. How do guys like Torst ride 1000 miles without complain??? Am I supposed to be doing some sort of trainning exercises like busting walnuts between my cheeks?? I feel like a bunch of football players with cleats on ran all over my butt! Bonsall Baron P.S. Any San Diego riders up for riding Coyote Canyon in the Anza Borreggo? This is the time of year for such rides. Actually I started going down the canyon fron Anza and all was going good until the trail started to turn into a rock waterfall. I thought this wasn't the place to be riding alone and have the pig fall on my leg. I'd have to cut it off like the guy in Moab.......

It just takes time to get used to it. Try a sheepskin over your seat, it helps --- Baron Tynan wrote:

Take 400 mg ibuprofen before you get on the bike and 200 mg every 2 hrs or so. Instant Ass of Titanium. Trust me.

I rode Coyote Canyon a couple of years ago from the North (with Steve Green adn 3 other guys) all the way to the forbidden zone (and beyond, but don't tell anyone) and back up. got home about 11.30 pm (left before sunrise). Ended up with a smoked clutch (it's a F'ing long way back up that hill/waterfall) and numb fingers. SG is coming down from Colorado for the holidays (he has folks in San Diego), and he pinged me to set up a desert ride for him (NRocky Mountains). Steve is a great guy (just ask him) and I would like nothing better than to make him weep. Er, I mean, show him a goood ride in So Cal. I will be planning a super de duper ride in the next three weeks (probably New Year's Day), come on out and show us what you got. I'm planning on about a 300 mile loop from Riverside, CA. No whining. If you show up, you either ride like a man, or stay home and sweep the shop. Cheers CA Stu PS I can turn my bike by just leaning. PPS I can also levitate.

Baron, good morning. A new seat would definitely help. I use generic baby powder, thinking that most of the discomfort is caused by sweating. Didn't notice any difference with using Gold Bond. On a hot, very long ride I also use a little vasaline instead of the powder. George, (sweet cheeks) Escondido, CA Baron Tynan wrote:

Cotton underwear-out. Nylon/lycra from Target at $10- in. Buy them in dark colors so you can get a week out of them. Sheepskin ready made or a $25 car seat cover from Sam's Club and cut it up yourself. Beads. 2000 Indian New York cab drivers can't be wrong. A Corbin seat. Slicing an inch or so of padding off the original seat. Pretty easy to do. Be sure to remove the seat cover before slicing. Bike shorts with padding- didn't work for me. Depends- would probably work but try explaining them to that cute waitress that you just picked up. If you try any and all of the above, you might achieve an acceptable comfort level. I did. If all else fails, try cheek implants. don

Hi All Just got back from our trip up to Corbin to get a custom seat done for the KLR. Wow, what a difference! Best $267 I spent on this bike so far. On the way from Burbank up we stopped at Arvin at the bottom of the grapevine for gas and a butt rest. In serious discomfort mode at this point. The next 100 miles to Coalinga we had to stop 2 times to get off the saddle. Same thing the following day for the 100 miles from Coalinga to Hollister where the factory is located. We spent the night in San Juan Batista near Hollister. The next day, we spent about 9 hours in the saddle and covered over 350 miles of some really nice back roads on the way home, with no serious discomfort at all. This bike is now more comfortable to travel on than my Valkyrie. (not good news for the Valk) Pictures and details of the ride to follow in the next day or two. Or if you're on a budget get the Sheepskin Buttpad from http://www.alaskaleather.com/index.html I like mine and will be using it on my ride down the Alcan Highway this coming July. Stu Dutch Harbor, AK --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, don dotson wrote:

I might ought to leave east TN and try to make that one since Asheboro is my hometown. I know Mom would put me up. ;-) So Kenn, are you a native of A'boro and do we know each other? I'm a '68 grad of AHS and lived north of town. (ping me off-list for this if you want). Sonny '02 KLR650
