nklr auto transmission problem (ford)

Post by matteeanne@yahoo.com » Tue Nov 02, 2004 3:38 pm

At least it's not politics... Short story, I am no motor head, I am a biker... Son was taking off transmission of 89 Escort. He pulled the end of the tranmission off instead (the one with all the gears in it). Question, Can it be put back on? Will all of those gears line up? Can I call the wrecker to pick it up and take it out of my pristine garage? It looks (IMHO) That if he (well ok, I) pull the rest of the transmission off, if possible, then maybe we could get it put back together? Ok motorheads, talk to me.... 89 escort (only Ford ever in my family (18 year old son's first car, blew clutch) __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Check out the new Yahoo! random tapping noise

Post by daveredmon66502 » Tue Nov 02, 2004 4:45 pm

Greetings-- My 1999 KLR 650 makes a random tapping noise when in gear and moving at speeds below 25 mph. I don't hear it in neutral at any rpm. One member of this listserve said his doohickey produced a sound resembling the chain slapping the engine block. Mine kinda reminds me of rod knocking or maybe piston slap, except it's not constant and not related to rpm or lugging load. Bike has 15K miles and runs fine otherwise. What other tips should I look for? What's my next step? Sure would appreciate some sound advice. Dave Redmon, Manhattan, KS
