footpeg mounts stripped, what is the easiest fix
I got down the road about ten miles today on my first commute from my
new home in the mountains, when the right footpeg came off with its
bracket. Stripped female thread in bracket is the problem. I am
thinking of drilling these out tonight and sticking in new nuts.
Anyone have any experience with this fix?

I agree. This is all too common an occurence, I don't know whether it would be better to Loctite the factory bolts to prevent the stripping or just go ahead and drill and tap them out to oversized as a preventive measure in the first place. Bill, to replace the captive nuts on the footpeg mounts, you would need to cut off the "box" from the frame tube, grind off the stockers, then weld the new ones in there, then weld the box back together, then re-attatch it to the frame tube. Seems like a lot of labor. footpeg mounts stripped, what is the easiest fix
The best solution is to install a repair helicoil. Although it
hasn't happened to me yet, this seems to been a common breakage.
Maybe something to do prior to a world trip in that the helicoil is
stronger than the original thread.

footpeg mounts stripped, what is the easiest fix
I had this problem too. With the bolt threading into that little, fully enclosed, box on the frame, I wasn't able to get a tap deep enough into the hole to tap it correctly. Much to my annoyance. Annoyed beyond hope, I welded the peg to the frame and then repainted. Should I ever need to remove the engine...it will need to come out the other side.

Devon just had to do that. When my 10mm jobbies failed at NOAB, Mark used his welder to fill up the box with weld which I then drilled and tapped.
