Hey guys!!
My 1994 KLR A8 has a black engine from factory.
My friend's 2001 A15 has a dark silver engine from factory.
So far so good..
I just baught a 1993 KLR 650 Tengai for parts for my 80000km + 1994
klr. The tengai's engine is silver not black. Is it because the
previous owner changed the engine or did the bike come like that from
factory?
Anyone with a 1993 tengai could confirm.
If the engine was in fact change it would mean I got a great deal on
a 1993 tengai with a newer engine.. :-0..
Thanks..

surging/lurching klr
Just got back from 3 days up at Deal's Gap. Rode the Dragon, did the
Skyway, etc, even passed a few sportbikes, but they were sitting on
the side of the road
On the way up the KLR did great - but the next day was running
terrible. It's developed a surge/lurch during any type of engine
braking - it was especially noticeable on the steep downhill grades -
the bike would be rolling downhill and lurching, surging, and annoying
the crap out of me. It's somewhat noticeable while accelerating hard
uphill as well, esp. if you are running 30-45 - high revs, and
maintaining a constant speed.
I had already drilled out my mixture screw but gave it an extra turn
thinking it still may be running lean - I tried up to 3 turns out but
it didn't seem to affect anything.
Straight-line, flat highway riding it runs great. I did 65 all the
way home - 300 miles + w/no problems. Starts great, idles great and
has good power. It's a 98 with 12k miles and up to this point has been
running great. Just did my valves, new plug, oil, etc.
Any ideas? I've ran a few tankfuls of gas through it but it's possible
some junk is in the carb - I don't have a filter.
