quick - ouput shaft bearing

I've used spray on chain lube for 22 years now and had a black and greasy rear wheel to prove it. I read, on this list, that WD 40 is a good lubricant, but thought that didn't sound reasonable. However, after trying it for a while, I now notice that when I sit the bike up on the centerstand ( can't be without one) and spin the rear wheel, I no longer have that awful grinding noise from all the grit that sticks to those gooey lubes. Although I have 25,000 miles on a chain lubed with chain spray, if WD40 works as well and doesn't cover this bike with goop, then I think it's a good idea. Thanks to those who suggested it...I'd never have considered it. Steve

I use WD 40 to clean and lube, then I coat it with a chain wax. This has seemed to work well for me. does anybody else do something similar? Or am I just wierd? just wondering how far to drive it in do i drive it in till it is flush with the inside of the case or do i drive it till it stops from hitting the outside of the case?? please help asap. glenski a14

I used 90wt gear oil briefly, then after a day in sand I noticed that my chain looked like it had valve compound on it and Devon's chain was still fairly clean and dry. I was sold, been using WD40 since.
