If you have time there's a great dual sport ride from Choix to Creel. I did
it about a year ago, with very little off road experience in about two days.
Actually, we made it most of one day and turned around due to dehydration
and driving a bike off the side of the mountain (later recovered with the
help of some local hombres), then completed it in two days the second time
around a day later. If you're going on your own bike and want to make a
little loop in Mexico, we had a lot of fun. We stopped in Choix and asked
around if we could do it. Most people said no, but one guy said yes and
drew us a map, which wasn't to scale at all, but had all of the towns along
the way listed in order.

I turn 59 Sunday. I have a year to get ready for the big one (60). I
had it in the back of my mind to jump out of a moving object at 15,000
ft. Then I decided. "How long would that last?" (15,000 ft. @ 120
mps, not long). I have change plans. I want to tour Copper Canyon,
in Mexico. I am looking for advice, suggestions, anything but "Don't
do it". I will be searching sites to read of other's adventures. If
you run accross any rider diaries, I would appreciate sending them on
to me.

Do both!
Jumping out of a plane is great fun. Anybody that thinks they would
like it should do it once. Besides, it is really cheap and only
takes an afternoon. Go for it!

You might want to check out www.panchovilla.com. Pancho Villa tours does Copper Canyon as does Rosen Rides @ www.rosensrides.com. I have no connection or personal experience with either, but know folks who have taken tours with one or the other. It's on my list of things to do. As to jumping from moving objects, I was all caught up in Sport Parachuting for a while several years ago and made several exits from both HU-1s (choppers) and Cessna aircraft. Small fixed wing was fun then, you basically stepped out of the aircraft onto the landing gear and held on to the strut until time to let go! What a rush! All student jumps were static line for the first 3-4 times and then on to free fall. But today, as IronJungle pointed out in his message, you can make a jump with almost no training or preparation. Just pay the money, hook up tandem to an experienced jumper, and go out the door. I almost believe the Copper Canyon ride might be a bigger challenge. And, if you're looking for real danger, take the Copper Canyon tour and just drink the local water. Happy Birthday!!! Jess Booth Odenton, MD 60 and counting.> I turn 59 Sunday. Anyone going to Copper Canyon in the next few months? It would be nice to go
with a small group of KLR riders who like doing 200 to 400 mile days. The
guided tours are nice but I'm too cheap and wouldn't do it alone.

Dean CC is all dirt, Getting there is on some goldwing smooth pavement,,,, IRC GP 110 tires are good for CC, Last time i went i had a Avon Gripster on the rear, MAJOR mistake, But then again we were on some roads that should have been only traveled by DONKEY, My buddy had on Kenda 270, Very good in the dirt, But to wishe wash, on the pavement for me,,, I like and will stick with the IRC GP110 tires, Unless i go on the donky trails again. 270 for me or full blown dirt tires, Screw DOT.....
