Hello all, I'm in need of a little advice in the counter sprocket area. I can't get the dam thing off. I don't have a size 28mm socket. Any other ideals? Thanks a ton. Kevin

Go buy one. Or, there's a fractional socket that will also fit. I want to guess 1 1/4" but don't remember for sure. Get a piece of pipe to put over the handle of your ratchet so you have a 3' lever arm. Get the heaviest person you can find to sit on the bike and stomp on the rear brake. -- Devon Brooklyn, NY A15-Z '01 KLR650 '81 SR500 cafe racer "The truth's not too popular these days....." Kevin, 1 1/8 is the closest that you can probably find easily. If you can find a 1 3/32 it may fit, may be too small. Try to find a Harbor Freight near you. They have long breaker bars, and I've actually had good luck with the large socket sets they sell. All the best, Mike Eagle Mfg & Eng San Diego, Ca.

Hello Walmart... Stanley Sockets larger Metric 7 piece I think cost me around $10~$15 maybe ? or Just about any Auto Parts store can sell just that size socket. $5~$10 maybe. depending on brand. I figured a few bucks more and I have a set on a plastic retainer strip thingy that keeps them together, and not between a few tool boxes/bags. Just my $ .02 Oh if you have a nice impact removing will be easy, unfortantly my impact is an electric model and did nothing but make the socket and the nut warm up, since I hammered on it a very long time without any luck. When I got the electric impact I did'nt have a air compressor nor the space for one just to use a air impact, of course now I have that problem out of the way, I suppose I will get a air type someday, but the cut off tool was the first thing I "just had to have" then a brad nailer. Kevin, there may also be a washer that is bent over the nut to lock it in place. you'll have to flatten the bend out to remove the nut. Kevin A17

I just laid over the seat and used my 1/2" ratchet and it came off, Then again I could really use the Atkins plan for a year or two ;-). -- ___ ______ _____ __ ________ ___ / _ |< < / == / ___/__ / /_ /_ __/ / __ ____ _ ___ /__ \ / __ |/ // / ****/ (_ / _ \/ __/ / / / _ \/ // / ' \/ _ \ /__/ /_/ |_/_//_/ == \___/\___/\__/ /_/ /_//_/\_,_/_/_/_/ .__/ (_) 8600 miles*Russel Lines*Supertrapp Race* /_/ http://www.panix.com/~cesser/mybike/

Actually, now that Tumu moved away, you're the heaviest person I could find. See how well it works? -- Devon Brooklyn, NY A15-Z '01 KLR650 '81 SR500 cafe racer "The truth's not too popular these days....." Arnold Schwarzenneger, in The Running Man

Point your friend at the link below. Anything post '96 is the same bike and it covers a lot more ground than just that. List FAQ courtesy of Chris Krok at: http://www.bigcee.com/klr650faq.html
